I was replaying Emerald again after years of not touching it and realized if you used Cut while near tall grass you can actually remove it.

I didn't know about the undersea teleport things in sapphire/ruby, but I mostly played emerald and it was removed there so that's probably why. It would have helped a lot, I'd rather just have one mon that knows surf and dive than one of those and a flyer too.

I've never actually known what Gyrados was weak to until very recently. I always assumed he was Dragon type and was always surprised when I attacked him and it wasn't super effective. I've only learned this gen for battle tree.
