It's odd they did this. The writers shown they had trouble balancing groups of 4 in AG and XY...such as Max/Brock being in the background often in AG, then in XY both Serena and Clemont switched off from being in the focus or being pushed to the sidelines, etc.

So they decided to go from a large group of 4.....to a group of 6. Plus TR is still around so that's 9ish main characters.

It was easily the most entertaining battle with ash actually trying to earn a badge instead of it just being given to him for effort or some other reason. This is why blaine was also a good fight. It was an actual battle.

So are the main characters in SM just going to remain mildly entertaining comic relief here and there? I shouldn't expect any real development or interesting battles from any of them, should I?

Even those upcoming battle episodes don't really leave me feeling super excited. We still don't have any fucking clue what lies beyond. So what if he battles Top Kek and then beats him?
