I like the head and tail but the flippers on this line bug me. Too long and oddly placed. It's unconfirmed as of now, but it could really go either way.
I'd like to think of Lana's as male, because otherwise none of the female protagonists will have a male partner and there'd be a pattern with the captains (Mallow F trainer/F Pokemon, Sophocles M/F, Kiawe M/M and Lana F/M).

I can see Popplio evolving at least once in some arc regarding it and Team Skull, after the backstory it had - getting over your fears and not letting others push you around style. It would actually fit well into Brionne's personality.
Unfortunately, can't really bring up any good points that'd allude to Prim.

Why so much discussion with this. I mean I like Primarina and its evolution line, but you know how is the tradition with pokemon starters, every starter has a 87.5% male, and I think that purpose is for making female starters more rare so a lot people can't breed them easily. Everybody wants what they want, I liked so much sun and moon gen.

The issue with the gender ratio thing is that the whole reason they made them always be mostly male to begin with has becoming kind of outdated. Dittos can be obtained fairly recently in the games, and people will just reset a ton for a female if they want it anyway. If anything it became a bigger deal as they started introducing more feminine starters.

Personally I think they should stop the stupid gender ratio thing, since like with Eevee and the fossil pokemon it's there as a gameplay mechanic more than any real tie to lore. I mean Mewtwo is identified as genderless in the games, yet has a clear gender in the anime.
