The idea was that Aipom stole the berries from your bag, so you'd go in and see a berry pile and want to steal them back. Or just bum rush in and attack. But the gear was just out in plain sight, unguarded, and the monkeys were just watching, so if you had just grabbed the gear and tried to leave, the monkeys would have just let you

Btw, I usually try to put some kind of mechanic like that into *most* boss battles to help or subvert the battle

I don't want the lewd gone entirely, it's made for some pretty great moments in the past, but also it's nice being able to make decent progress and not have everything turn into a confrontation. That last room probably would have turned into a battle, or something. I was half expecting someone to suggest raping zubat while he was carrying ron over and then that'd turn into a whole thing, but it was a simple encounter and the bats turned out to be friends which is a nice change. Just need to try and strike a good balance of progress and mischief I guess
