People in this thread have pretty much pointed out most of the reasons I like it but I really hope that they make more like this.
For once, I didn't just breeze through the excuse of a plot present in most gens, I actually cared about the characters and the plot direction. I also loved the UBs as excuses to make absurd designs and the fact that bug types got it so good this gen, especially compared to how much they were shafted last gen.

It's one of my favorite Pokemon generations by far, and will likely stay that way for many generations considering what it dethroned. My only real complaint is that I wish it was longer, since the prime point of SM is the excellent singleplayer.

Ultrabeasts are the introduction of pokemon foreign and alien to our world and their designs all nail that aesthetic perfectly. What sucks is that they are just shitty anticlimactic wild encounters who are impossible not to catch.

No trainer had more than 3 Pokemon, so i was never really challenged.
Every trainer and wild pokemon's was significantly lower than my team, which made the game very easy.
Riding pokemon and getting rid of HMs simplified the game and made it more appealing to my child brain.
Flashy and overpowered Zmoves really took away some of the battle strategy (even more so than mega evolutions) which streamlined battling
All around the game was more childish and gimmicky, but i think that's a good thing because I enjoy consuming whatever garbage Gamefreak (aka muh childhood gods) decide to shit out

There are infinite possiblities for Z-moves, it's just that people aren't creative enough.

How is this a good thing? All it does is waste time with silly animations, create shitty arbitrary road blocks and removes any sense of puzzle or exploration from a game that already had next to none. Its handholding and railroading the worst since gen 5.

HMs aren't that much better in that regard because you had to sit through the animation of holding up the ball and flashing the mon in question before doing anything.
That said the only real problem with HMs is that you couldn't delete them without going to a remover so if they just make them regular TMs in that regard then they would far surpass Rides.
