Here's my opinion:
>Gen 1: Nothing
>Gen 2: Best atmosphere
>Gen 3: Best new Pokemon
>Gen 4: Best music
>Gen 5: Best story
>Gen 6: Also nothing
>Gen 7; Best characters
Prove me wrong/right/in-between.
>>31781672
>>Gen 1: Nothing
created the franchise, but other than that you're right
>>Gen 2: Best atmosphere
correct
>>Gen 3: Best new Pokemon
maybe. it was the most bold after gens 1 and 2
>>Gen 4: Best music
agreed
>>Gen 5: Best story
close, but 7 is better.
>>Gen 6: Also nothing
i liked kalos' pokemon. that's about it
>>Gen 7; Best characters
true
>>31781672
>gen 1
Best exploration
>gen 6
Best variety of Pokémon to choose from.
>>31781672
Gen 1: Nothing
Gen 2: Best new region and postgame story
Gen 3: Best new Pokémon
Gen 4: Best minor details and remakes
Gen 5: Best story and postgame content
Gen 6: Catch all Pokémon of National Pokédex and Battle Tower incarnation (for having Triple and Rotation Battles which Gen 5 lacked)
Gen 7: lol
>>31781831
Literally everything is wrong. Try again.
>Gen 1: Nothing
i guess
>Gen 2: Best atmosphere
arguable, but i agree (somewhat)
>Gen 3: Best new Pokemon
sure
>Gen 4: Best music
nah, that goes to either gen 3 or gen 5
>Gen 5: Best story
yeah
>Gen 6: Also nothing
yeah
>Gen 7: Best characters
sureeven though lillie is just wally but with mommy issues
>>31781672
Gen 6 did a pretty good job of introducing trainer customization. And the overall aesthetics of the gen were great (particularly Laverre City and the Elite Four castle/interior). Agreed with everything else.
>Gen V
Best meta.
>>31781816
>gen 6
Best variety of Pokémon to choose from
You are joking right... If you don't choose the kanto starter you are severly lacking in variety. So many of the new pokemon are shoved down your throats. I don't want a pidgey or cancer bird, no thanks on howlucha, give me a spearow... Oh wait you can only get fearow @ lvl 40... Keep saying gen 6 has variety I will just laugh every time
>>31781672
That sounds about right, actually. Like, that's about as correct as it can get. 1 was mediocre but great for the time, 6 was trash, rest of the gens are amazing.
>>31782295
How fucking autistic are you?
>>31781672
gen1: non-linearity
gen2: most improvements
gen3: introduced Battle Frontier
gen4: best new mechanics, meta and postgame
BW1: fresh Pokédex
BW2: Challenge Mode
gen6: introduced EXP shareto make grinding Pokédex evolutions easier
gen7: introduced IV checker and Pelago
>>31782467
>Gen 4: best meta
Excellent taste. Definitely the most fun and diverse meta, especially in UU.
>Gen 1: Best Pokémon
>Gen 2: Jack of trades
>Gen 3: Best level design
>Gen 4: Jack of trades but slower
>Gen 5: Best endgame content
>Gen 6: Nothing
>Gen 7: Even less than Gen 6
>>31782495
Yeah, all those kinds of garchomp were really nice
GEN 1: map design. sense of urban exploration is unmatched by later games
GEN 2: best atmosphere and postgame. a lot of the game is "peak storytelling" that feels like a myth to hand down to your kids
GEN 3: agree again, best new pokemon. if you take nostalgia out of it, there are a lot of memorable pokemon and a myriad of unique typings in this block
GEN 4: all credit to these games for the special/physical split. a lot of useless pokemon got a second wind, whether or not they stayed in UU or not, they at least got to carve themselves a meaningful niche (here's looking at any number of physical water-types)
GEN 5: best music. the story was rubbish
GEN 6: honestly not sure. i don't mean to be disparaging but i'm replaying it right now and it's not shit by any means but it brings nothing new to the table, and excels in no individual element
GEN 7: best at 'refreshing' the franchise without retconning anything, and setting the series up in a better position to go through a number of iterative generations without being an unsustainable mess
>>31782379
not autistic enough to just name call instead of actually giving a rebuttal.
>>31782610
>UU
Did you read my fucking post? Also, Garchomp got banned halfway through. OU was a shithole before then, but it got way better after.
>>31781672
>Gen 1: Definitive, best antagonists
>Gen 2: Nothing
>Gen 3: Best region, Pokemon, music
>Gen 4: Nothing
>Gen 5: Best internal balance
>Gen 6: Best new mechanics
>Gen 7: Best story, best "evil team"
>>31782619
>it brings nothing new to the table
Objectively speaking it brings far more to the table than gen 4 or 5.
Mega Evolution
3D Models
Amie
Trainer customization
Super training
Gen 4 only had the split, gen 5 had triple battles which nobody used and even the game itself didnt endorse.
>>31781831
>Catch all Pokémon of National Pokédex
Literally gens 1-4
>>31782707
Online play was pretty huge deal in DPP at least for me. I did not have friends to trade Pokémon with at the time.
>>31782734
Gen3 was kinda shit for nat dex completion though. Trade restrictions out of the arse and Johto games divided between the main games and Gamecube ones.
>>31782751
>Johto games
meant Johto Pokémon
>Gen 5: best waifus
>>31782707
>Mega Evolution
bad and GF is already softly retconning their existence. nothing to talk about here
>3D models
I consciously didn't mention this as the 3D models in Colosseum/XD/PBR, even Pokedex 3D, look better than Gen 6/7's models. A lot of Pokemon have suffered in GF's move to 3D.
>Amie
? This would be like saying Gen 4 has the best Pokethlon. It's a sidegame, not a justification of a generation
>Trainer customization
Again..
>Super trainingI inject IVs
>>31782743
Even there, gen 6 has PSS, the best implementation of online play, and therefore a region it excels in.
>>31782802
I'll give it that.
hot opinions incoming
>Gen 1: Best sense of linearity, best villains
>Gen 2: Best lore, best music
>Gen 3: Best spinoffs, best meta
>Gen 4: Most challenging story
>Gen 5: Best gym leaders/characters in general
>Gen 6: Best online features
>Gen 7: no idea honestly, best cinematics?
>>31782760
you already know
>>31782581
>best pokemon
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
>>31781672
gen 1 had the best progression. Allows more options thru the game route
>>31782852
>Gen 3
>Best meta
Surely you're joking anon competitive was a fucking joke back then
>>31781947
lillie is worse like ten times worse
>>31782295
>they don't give me the same gen 1 shitmons that show up every gen! That means there's no variety!
let's look at...I dunno, Kalos route 5. Abra, Doduo, plusle, minun, gulpin bunnelby skiddo pancham, furfrou scraggy.
Not single a poke shares the exact same typing, in fact across them all, if you count bunnelby evolving, this route alone exposes you to almost half of the available types in the game.
There's also pokemon from 3 different generations n these bushes. INCLUDING your precious gen 1.
Hell, let's look at another random route, mayble this time a little later into the game.
I dunno, 18?
Sandslash, Graveler, Pupitar/Lairon, Torkoal, Gurdurr, Heatmor, Durant, Shuckle.
wow, another 6 types, 7 if you count pupitar evolving, encompassing another 4 generations.
So please, explain how the roster isn't varied.

Lol.
Gen 3 was a peak in itself in competitive, most notably in cartridge Irl tournaments.
It was already extremely advanced.
Gen 1 attack animations.
Gen 6 had best QoL stuff as far as I recall.
