Kabutops is the ancient ancestor to Carracosta and Carracosta is the ancestor to Blastoise.

Over its evolution, Kabutops grew more defensive by gaining more bulk and swapping its scythes for cannons. This is why Kabutops and Blastoise are both labeled as the Shellfish Pokemon and why Mega Blastoise's head looks similar to Kabutops (imo at least).
