It needs ghost/fairy typing.
Levitate is pretty great and would provide 4 immunities, but I'd give it some variation of no-guard for purgatory spam. Alternatively an ability that boosted the power of magic moves could be pretty cool, it does get Hex, Mystical Fire, Magical Leaf and Power Gem.
A defensive set really needs better recovery than pain-split, bulky ghosts as a whole need some sort of healing moves (mystic healing or something I don't know).

Honestly there is a lot of ways they could go with Mismagius but it's clear Gamefreak never gave a fuck about it.

Fundamentally it's original evolution stat distribution was terrifically bad, it only gets +60 on evolution and no dual typing. You know how bad that is? It makes it only on par with Magmar, a NFE and weaker than the Unova elemental monkeys.

Then instead of doing something with the boost they go and split them evenly +20 to each stat so it's best stats are only a little above average instead of minmaxing to Gengar status.

Also not giving any boost to it's defense and HP is a bad bad idea because then Eviolite came along and just straight up makes Misdreavus better defensively.

In short nothing can save Mismagius short of a minimum of another +20/30 to it's bases or a dual typing that doesn't completely suck ass.

I'd say that Mumaji is more magician/witch than banshee. Hell, it's on its hat.

Even if you go ahead with banshee, they're spirits and ghosts. You have to bend really hard to consider it a fairy.

Surprised Ghost/Fairy isn't on there. It only has two major weaknesses, being Ghost itself and Steel. Three immunities, and Dark and Poison neutralize out.

Steel did get a slight nerf in Gen 6. But giving Ghost a third immunity might be pushing it.
Plus, Mimikyu would likely become a bigger problem.

What Mismagius really needs is a higher base HP than its prevo. It has a very strong support movepool, but sadly a Misdreavus with Eviolite uses it better because of superior defenses. It's similar to Dusknoir in that way.
