I agree. I also like how the Charmander line's evolution ends with an iconic fantasy creature while maintaining a consistent design as it grows into a dragon. To me, it's a perfect representation of Pokemon evolution.

Honestly every gen besides fucking VI and VII obviously are all good in their own ways (I'm partial to III and V) and anytime I hear the word "genwunner" used on here, I'm just perplexed. Most of my problems with gen 5 come less from the new mons, but more from the meta, the lack of fresh spinoffs (Conquest not included), and the fact that it dragged on longer than any other gen in my eyes. I appreciate what it did for the franchise, mainly bringing a more story oriented approach to the games, but good god it's impossible for me not to go back to those games without at least some level of scorn.

As for why I like Beheeyem specifically, I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and extraterrestrial theories, so the amount of references to alien shit that the line had made me instantly fall in love.

Venusaur does follow a logical maturation, but I'd argue that Charizard does that as well with the addition of that fantasy element which really ties into a good RPG adventure.

I do think the details of its growth were more prominent in the original artwork, where Charmander had that bump on its neck that moved to the back of it's head as Charmeleon, then split into horns as Charizard. They even played on that with Mega Charizard Y. That's just one of the less obvious touches, otherwise it just grows up and gets wings.

I disagree, you're just used to it because it's one of the first ever Pokémon designs, so it's acceptable. But it's no different to the woodpecker turning into a toucan in gen 7. Worse in fact, because of the above reasons, that it gets no typing or moves that make sense with its design. It took Yellow version to justify it getting wings, and 6 gens before they finally explained it had some kind of latent dragon abilities to justify its dragon-like appearance.

Tapu's yes, they are very prominent. But the thing about the Tapu's is that the Fields they generate are extremely beneficial to many different Pokémon, opening up a huge variety of options. With all 4 Tapu's being prominent, this has led to the most varied teams I have ever seen.

VCG usually revolves around a much smaller amount of viable options. At it's worse, you literally had identical teams and strategies.

But 2017 seems to have made a huge push in opening up opportunities for all kinds of Pokémon. Even fucking Hail teams, beyond the usual weather. And Trick Room.

As for Ultra Beasts, you'd be surprised. Kartana is quite popular, and then theres... Celesteela, which is dropping in use, and Nihilego which is alright. Most of the Ultra Beasts are not that great though.

Don't let the localized names confuse you. Especially early on, a lot of the names weren't terribly connected to the source. Wartortle, for example, is Kameil in Japan, which just means a turtle that can bite.

Same with the Bulbasaur line. Bulbasaur's Japanese name means "isn't it strange?" and is also a corruption of "mysterious bulb". Any connection to "saur" was strictly from the English localization team, and may also have come from the French interpretation "Bulbizarre", keeping with the theme that it's just a weird creature with a bulb. It honestly has more in common with toads that any kind of dinosaur, considering its color, hopping, and eventual warts.

But I digress. Wartortle's sudden fluffy ears and tail that disappear in favor of cannons out of nowhere do really make it a strong offender of a nonsensical leap.

I just really like it design wise, find the bond thing to be cool as fuck, and i liked Greninja because it's cool looking. Ash-Greninja just improved it in my opinion.
