What's the best way to grind for battle points in SM?

Git gud at Battle Tree and you'll be swimming with BP.

Battle Tree if you're any good at battling, Battle Royal if you're not.

Put as many Pokémon in Bank as you can and wait.

battle tree doubles or singles if you know how to make/use a decent enough team

You should be able to clear the normal battle modes in the tree with the items you have at your disposal. Get a little more creative with your sets, using stuff you wouldn't normally like berries, etc until you get all of what you need. Clearing singles and doubles normal mode should give you enough BP to get started.
