>>31700453
I just found the pic, no need to be mean this is a nice thread
TORTOISES ARE NOT TURTLES REEEEEEEEEEEEE
lookbackatit
>>31700473
Taxonomically, tortoises are just a type of turtle.
Matamatas are pretty cool. Difficult species to keep too, from what I hear
>>31700453
no gen 6?
what happened?
Still waiting on that 6th frog to make a frog team
>>31700473
The distinction between tortoise and turtle only exists in the english language
>>31701424
It comes from barnacle. It's jap name refers to barnacles as well.
>>31701511
Politoed
Poliwrath
Swampert
Toxicroak
Seismitoad
Greninja
???
>>31701497
Avalugg
>>31701593
>swampert
>frog
>>31701593
Swampert isn't a frog/toad. It's a mudfish
>>31701597
that's not a turtle, it has no shell
>>31701760
are you retarded?
>>31701760
It's flat surface is like a flat-shelled turtle
>>31701806
Not him, but yes
>>31701806
>>31701817
It's a fucking iceberg
>>31701834
>pokemon can only be based on one thing
>>31701838
>this is a turtle
>>31701879
Yes, very good Anon.
>>31701834
Avalugg is a turtle Pokemon, however Shuckle is not.
>Lapras is a long necked sea turtle
Less bickering more artwork.
>>31702265
>>31702284
>>31700425
I remember in showdown I fought a team Identical to this
Best turtle coming through
>>31702339
placodont, not turtle
They look similar though
>one grass type turtle
>TWO fire types
>TWO water types
Would they please just hurry up and make a fourth one with unique typing so I can make my ninja turtle team already.
>>31702299
Also torterra looks an awful lot like an ankylosaur
>>31702464
>not wanting a second grass turtlean electric turtle would be cool. Name it Shellshock.
Do you think torkoal needs an evolution? i want it to be more useful but i love it's desing too
>>31704718
>already giga cancer in doubles
>giving it a mega
pls no that would actually make it worth picking over the hyper cancer charizard y
Been using a full offense Mega Blastoise lately. I like it. Torterra still the best, though.
>>31704752
>Mega gives it some sort of boost in sun ability
Make it fucking happen.
>>31704752
What makes it so cancerous in doubles?
>>31701593
is it me or was Seimitoad really unnecessary? I mean its just a worse Swampert and although Water/Ground is a great typing it loses its luster when like 5 different pokemon have it and all are slow bulky busiers
Grumpig
Emboar
Primeape
Mamoswine
Only four pigs? The last two are kinda pushing it
>>31706081
>M-Torkoal with Solar Power
>>31702382
I mean a few Placodonts have a rough shell but Lapras doesnt resemble them in the slightest nor where Placodont ever well known about to ever have a pokemon modled after them especially 20 years ago, no Im pretty sure Lapras is just a mishmash of monster parts vaguely resembling a plesiosaur or the loch ness monster
>>31703847
And the mid-stage of the evo line, grotle resembles stegosaurus, with its rounded back and two rows of bushes. The entire line has a tortoisetle/ armoured dinosaur/plant motif.
I want to make an all turtle/tortoise team, but have no idea how to build it. Any suggestions?
>>31700447
>>31700453
>>31701552
Shuckle is an endolith with the biology, shape, whatever you want to call it of a tortoise, so it definitely counts as one.
>>31706402
SHUCKLE IS A BUG YOU NIGGER NOT A TURTOISE
>>31706479
The tortoise inspiration is clearly there you mong. I'm not saying it's JUST a tortoise and not denying that there's other elements to Shuckle's creative design.
>>31706531
Is this autism or bait?
>>31706605
Am I going to have to tweet Masuda or some shit to settle the never ending is Shuckle is a turtle debacle?
Even Lapras is more of a turtle than Shuckle. Shuckle doesn't even seem to be fixed into that rock shell the way a turtle is.
Alright, I sent it.
>>31706531
>what is a slime mold
>>31706802
It's a slime mold, abalone, endolith or whatever too. But it's shaped like a turtle as well.
>>31706531
>>31706605
>>31706638
No, I think I can see what he's saying. He's not arguing that Shuckle actually is a turtle, he's saying that they kinda made him look like one to evoke the cute animal response.
Because, c'mon, he's a round shell with two limbs in the front, two in the back, and a long necked head sticking out the front. He DOES look like a turtle, which is why he still have this debate after all these years.
So, no, definitely not actually a turtle, but the guy's probably right that they took some turtle inspiration when designing him.
>>31707013
Hit the nail right on the head. You explained it much better than my half-asleep autistic self could.
What kind of turtle would you like to see as a pokemon in the future? I want to see a black-knobbed map turtle. I see them around sometimes where I live. They're pretty cool looking.
>>31700425
When will we get a competitively viable turtle?
The closest we have is Mega Blastoise but they nigga just can't catch a break. They need to give him Shell Smash.
>STILL not considering Golem a turtle-baser Pokemon
>>31707430
Is every creature that lives inside a hard thing considered a turtle to you people? Shuckle, Golem, what else?
Golem is literally a boulder with limbs and a head.
>>31707445
I can understand arguing about Shuckle but Golem too? What does Golem's head, arms, and legs look like then if not a turtle?
>>31700425
>>31701424
>>31701552
>>31706402
>>31706531
>>31706802
>>31706895
Personally, I think Shuckle is most likely based on multiple species of scale insects.
Pic related. Much like how Shuckle produces berry juice, Scale insects produce a liquid called honey dew which is a food source for many other insects like ants.
>>31707516
forgot pic
>>31707499
>What does Golem's head, arms, and legs look like then if not a turtle?Machoke
>>31707520
and here's another species of scale insect that I believe serves as an inspiration for shuckle.
>>31700425
>tfw the Guac Man Jeb Bush is on /vp/
>>31707499
Any reptile ever? Also Machoke.
>>31707516
>>31707520
>>31707535
This
Shuckle is a tricky case since its inspiration(s) are somewhat debatable. Though it does appear most to be a scale inspect. They're immobile insects that suck plant juices and develope hard shells as a form of defense.
Still, shuckle's appearance is definitely that of a turtle.
>>31707516
>>31707520
>>31707535
I've seen it been called one of those too. If Masuda actually answers I'll eat my shoe.
>>31707217
A normal ghost turtle
>>31707586
I'd say Shuckle is a turtle in idea without actually being one, kind of like how Kricketune is only based on the idea of a cricket, when its body is definitely more of a violin beetle and shares no traits with a cricket other than being able to make noise with it limbs.
>>31707587
Kind of hope we never know what it really is. Shuckle is just shuckle, and that's great. I love pokemon like sudowoodo and wobbefett that seem to take some inspiration from things but are really just their own thing.
>>31702228
Somewhere between a plesiosaur and that yeah. Also Golem is a grenade/boulder/turtle.
>>31706144
It was good during the story when you only had gen 5 pokemon. Never used it since then but I still like it.
>>31706169
If having a pig nose is all you need to consider it a pig you should put Slaking and Walrein on there too.
>>31700425
tortoise is not same as turtle, also a mold
>>31708942
Turtles refer to all animals of the Testudines order.
You might as well not include Turtonator and the Squrtle line for being Terrapins
>>31707655
How have I never seen one of these before. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the animals pokemon are based on.
>>31707367
Even origin pulse would probably do the trick. It even makes sense, since he's one of the "original" starters.
>>31707217
I want more sea turtles. Some wacky water/psychic type hawksbill dripping with bioluminescence.
>>31707217
Big headed turtle
Ghost type.
There was also an episode of river monsters where the guy pulled out some huge turtle with an insanely long neck that almost bit him. I can't remember what species that was, but i do know it was in Asia. I know common snappers and alligator snappers have deceptively long necks, but this thing's neck was snake like long, and it was a bigger species.
