With surge surfer its slightly better in that it can hit quicker than regular raichu in e-terrain/with tapu koko. It also has access to psychic which is nice.

Overall it really depends on if you want a raichu with lightning rod to deflect electric attacks or you wanta fast special sweeper in e-terrain.

In almost every way. Yeah the psychic typing adds a few more weaknesses, and its ability is borderline useless, but it makes up for that with having access to psychic alongside its standard moveset as a regular Raichu. The slight buff to its special stats are nice too.

i prefer regular raichu, both visually and playing

Depends on what you need. Psychic isn't a great typing to have when Sucker Punch and Pusuit exist, especially on a frail pokemon like Raichu.

Surge Surfer is very situational, whereas Lightningrod can come in handy.

I guess if you have a weakness to fighting or maybe poison mons, then yeah. Alola Raichu also has the ability to hit ground-types with a stab psychic move when Grass Knot isn't favorable.

Both are fast pokemons with access to fake out + encore and other good support moves like helping hand
Raichu has good synergy with Koko and Lele and can put more offensive pressure with 2 stabs
Regular raichu has lightningrod so it has good synergy if you want to protect one of your mons with a electric weakness

yeah he's probably terrible in singles tho, there are so many better fast electric types out there, and Raichu barely has a niche over the others, maybe with nasty plot ?
His design is still 11/10, definitely one of my favorite pokemon
