Honestly, I'd say that would be the Johto starters, as much as I appreciate Gatr Time. Before they realized they could actually play around with stats or interesting typings.

So far, only two sets of starters have Megas. Zard has two Megas. Does that mean for every set of starters, Zard gets a new Mega?

Emboar is shit and ugly but at least it has an interesting design and concept compared to Meganium which is shit, ugly, and boring.

Samurott and Serperior are both great as are Typhlosion and Feraligatr.

I have nothing against the gen 2 starters but you can't say Typhlosion's design is interesting if Meganium's isn't. They're basic animal shapes (dinosaurs are animals) with something around their neck to signify their element. Meganium even has an extra detail with the antenna

I never said Typhlosion was interesting. I said Meganium was bad because it's both ugly and a boring concept. Typhlosion is at least pretty to look at even if there isn't much of a concept behind it.

And even then, Typhlosion is a more interesting and better realized concept. It has the volcano theme, notable in its design by its resemblance to a volcano from behind with its flames out. (The blue being the side of a volcano and the fire being an eruption). Meganium is literally just a sauropod (being one of the most common dinosaurs types in pop culture, second only to T-rex and raptors, so the animal basis isn't even particulary inspired) with a flower around it. The antenna is a nice nod to the anatomy of flowers (being the pistil of a flower) but that's it.
