GF basically did that with Mega Evolutions right down to the Fire/Dragon. A full retcon/overhaul would have been better, but both Mega Charizards are among the best Pokémon to use in OU so I'm not complaining.

What went wrong is that everyone has access to stealth rocks. That move should be nich to rock types (and a few ground types) only....like spore is for mushroom pokemon.

Charizards design was at least simple and was naturally cool. Greninjas however looks like its trying WAY too hard to be the cool and edgy starter. Also, Charizard is competitively viable too you know albeit in its mega forms.

And the less said about Ash-Greninja the better.
