Why do you think GF still keeps the data for the National and Earth Ribbons up to this point? Considering they have replaced ribbon data with others before in the past, it's strange how these ones still go on.

I noticed the last thread and decided I wanted to collect ribbons onto a mon. As I am also working on a shiny living dex, I figure that I ought to get the ribbons on a shiny. I just downloaded Pokemon Colosseum. Do any of you know anything about shiny hunting in that game?

Those two are still obtainable. I think all the replaced/deleted ribbons so far are all unreleased or at least time limited? Besides the memory ones.

I would be sad if they did that too, in my opinion the Earth Ribbon is second only to golden Battle Memory when it comes to prestige.

How many ribbons can a Pokemon legitimately get? Someone showed me a Blaziken they transferred over from Ruby and it's got 34 of them

What do you do if you forget to get a ribbon for your ribbon mule and you already transferred them.

I hardly played gen 5 so I don't even have the champion ribbon.

I was going to go for all gen 3 contest ribbons, but battery is dead, save file had most TMs used up, and I couldn't find a link cable to trade to my lg or my Colosseum/GoD game disk and it seemed pointless since the only gen 4 game I have is HG. Playing through Colosseum now, almost to Venus. I'm waiting until I get the master ball to catch my future ribbon whore for balltist reasons. Watch GF remove all ribbons next gen like in V.

In code, the shadow pokemon and purified pokemon are different entities, probably as a way to avoid trading the shadow version.

Different entities, different PID, different shininess they didn't account for that in Colosseum.

That would require an amazing amount of luck. I don't know much further, but it seems you have to basically capture your target every single time to get to check, as opposed to reset at the start of the battle.

Yeah, you can beat the Gen 3 Tower without perfect Pokemon.

Anyway, as far as things go, the RS Tower is probably easier than the Emerald Tower. Pokemon pool is smaller, for one. If you have trouble in Emerald, switch to Ruby.

As for the Blending, it helps that I always try to save my old gaming stuff, so I still had my old link cables from years ago.
Also, I will confess on one point, my friend with the Nutpea Berry hacked it in his game. I'm not one to cheat personally, but its not mine, and I can't stop him.

The important thing to remember as a Ribbon autist is that some Pokémon can plain and simply not obtain all Ribbons. For instance, my favorite Pokémon is Politoed, but I'm not delusional enough to catch one in Gen III with Damp/Water Absorb. I'll happily breed one in Gen VI for Drizzle and be happy with Gen VI+ Ribbons only just to have the its Hidden Ability.

You keep catching that pokemon on the first encounter until its shiny in your party. If you see it shiny on the trainer's side, it most likely won't be shiny for you if you catch it (very rare, small chance it will stay shiny if this happens too).

Swablu is before you can go to Agate, so I'm putting its stats into a calculator and then seeing how well different purification methods work on it.

That depends. Is the trainer with Swablu an unskippable battle? The nature/IVs of a shadow Pokemon are set when you first encounter it, so even if you defeat it and save its capture for postgame, its nature will be set in stone.

But if you can avoid the battle entirely that will work. It's what I'm doing for my Misdreavus.

Game Freak really has done a terrible job of handling ribbons overall. Take a look at a list of all ribbons, there are so many of them there are unreleased, replaced or both. It sucks that there are time-limited and event-exclusive ones too.

The point doesn't have to be collecting every possible ribbon. After all, there are a whole bunch of unreleased ones so it's an impossible goal without cheating.

It's fine to just collect the ribbons that you think are cool or suitable for your favourite, even if it's not from Gen 3 or prior.

Migrated my Pikachu yesterday. Gonna do my new playthroughs of HG and Plat with it in my teams.

But, before I play through Heart Gold and Platinum, decided to get a few easy Ribbons today. Got the 3 Ribbons you have to buy, with some grinding time for money. Also got the Footprint Ribbon with the plethora of Berries I had.

Got a few Super Contest Ribbons, just the Cool ones since my Pikachu's moveset was already Cool moves.
But man, Super Contests are a pain. The first and third parts aren't bad, but man do I stink at the Dance portion, and ended up losing the Master Rank because I couldn't get much points.

Nice, finished up my favourite today. Battle Royals are the worst, and I feel cheated because I've never seen the Masked Man. I got my battle ribbons in ORAS, the Maison was - dare I say it - much easier than the XY one. Getting to a 50 streak in SM was godawful and never ever again. Thank fuck for Protean Greninja.

Also how are you guys using an emulator to get Pokemon onto one of the DS/3DS games? I have Dolphin, but how do you do it? I never had a GBA, so my oldest ribbonmon (shiny Charizard) is gen 4.

I know one way to go from emulator to physical copy is to use a Flash Cart. I'm not what other ways there would be, but I'm interested as well because I have a few potential ribbon Pokemon on an emulator that I want to bring to my GBA game.

Going through my old GoD file for a possible old ribbon mon I can start collecting ribbons with and I've come across a strange quirk with the ribbon screen.
Pic related, the ribbon's description this Flygon has highlighted says it's the Effort Ribbon but it's shaped like the Battle Tower Ribbon and purely white (I've never beaten the Battle Tower).
My Blaziken and Groudon also have what appears to be the Artist Ribbon but it still has the description for the Effort Ribbon.

Does GoD categorize ribbons differently?

I only got her some time last year so she isn't really special in any way on the surface. But a really close friend gave her to me so that I'd have a special Pokemon with his OT, since I gave him a Garchomp and Shiny Espurr ages ago. I proceeded to collect every possible Ribbon, and she became one of my most valued Pokemon. Fast forward to late last year, stuff began to visibly fall apart again. Our friendship, I mean. He eventually left because of my repeated messing up over the years, and this is all I have left to remember him.

Ribbon compatibility is weird between Orre and the gba games. For example, the GBA games have the wrong text for both the Orre ribbons until they connect to them and download the corrected data. (At least that's the case in RS)

The crown data isn't kept when you transfer it to gen 5 though. You won't get it back if they make another Johto remake.

The reason the Contest/Battle Memory Ribbons are fucked up is because they check your overall Ribbon count instead of the the number stored on the Ribbon.

You can have a Battle Memory Ribbon with only "1" listed on it, but it will be gold instead of blue in Gen VII as long as you have 8 other Ribbons. The Contest Memory Ribbon is the same way, so it's currently impossible for it to be gold since there aren't 40 legally obtainable Ribbons available in Gen VII.

General question about this Super Triples party, I'm currently using it and I'm up to 24 so far, what party member can be replaced with your ribbon mon (in my case Delcatty) for the ribbon battle? I would replace Togekiss personally since its damage output isn't that great and the Regis are so slow that Choice Scarf doesn't give it an advantage.

It's not too scary, I've done the fight with 3 useless ribbon mons in the back (using the Talonflame/Blastoise/Greninja core), but it is possible for Regice to fuck you over with Thunder Wave and paralysis hax. If Regice comes out first I tried to Flare Blitz it with Talonflame on the first turn, attacking with Blastoise and Mat Blocking with Greninja, then having Blastoise use Protect while Talonflame sets up Tailwind on turn 2 when Regice is gone.

i want to play Sapphire for the contests (first time doing this) but i am not feeling confident about my movesets, there seems to be a variety of moves that cause different effects, how do i balance my team's movesets properly?

But is that core enough to take on any legendary around the 40s as well (mine have at most 4-5 perfect IVs)? It already feels like around 32 the AI gets more aggressive, and I'm afraid of loosing my streak this late after loosing on 33 when I attempted Super Doubles first. Had to go through the Maison again this weekend just to get the ribbons for my buddy Empoleon. Of course I lost in the 40s and had to start all over but ORAS multi was the perfect option since Steven is a fucking beast, always flinching with Aerodactyl and saving my butt with a Megagross that never misses an attack.

Haven't moved anything to gen 7 but I hope the Battle Tree is tolerable with a Protean Greninja.

You can always finish up your personal project and work on your ribbon bro some time in the future. Or do it in spurts, a lot of times I'll get super into earning ribbons for a while, get burnt out, and leave it alone for months at a time. That guy documenting his Qwilfish's ribbon journey took years in between earning some ribbons.
It doesn't matter how long it takes you, the ribbons aren't going anywhere yet.

Also I don't think anyone cares if you emulate or not as long as you actually play through everything fairly. It shouldn't be a matter of spending money, ribbons should only reflect time/effort.

I'm planning on doing a ribbon master Togekiss in gen 4, I've done a test run in an emulator already (with hyper speed mode to skip the boring bits) and it went pretty well.

I finally bred an ideal Togepi with nasty plot so that cuts my options for contests down to three moves. Four moves didn't seem all that necessary on the emulator so it shouldn't be too much of a problem right?

My main question is, are the Platinum Veilstone Poffins good enough? I have two DS's and two carts and I've done a fuck-ton of berry growing in Emerald in the past so growing berries in Platinum won't be a problem. Is there much of a difference making my own poffins or just buying them?
