EX/GX Pokemon aren't just automatically better than others. Check the imgur link in the OP (it's a bit out of date, but it makes the point decently enough).

By the sounds of it, I'm guessing you opened your in-game booster packs? In future, be aware that packs are currency. If you want EXs/GXs, you trade for them using packs.

Play the game a bit and learn more about it first and then figure out what kind of deck you want to build. Once you know, then trade for the cards you need.

lmao, don't do that. Read the guide. Your options are

1. play vs ladder with themedecks, clean out your mystery wheel daily, do your challenges daily. Use tokens to enter token tournaments and win tickets. Use tickets to enter theme events when you can find them, accept you will lose most of the time but still get tradable chests or packs for high placements. Save these packs up and trade them for cards you need to fill a standard list. Once you have a standard list you have a shot at actually winning standard tournaments and taking big pack prizes. You can use these to build an expanded deck.

2. buy codes. You can get a booster box worth of codes for like $5-10 on ebay, more if you watch auctions. Aim to get ROS/SM codes as cheaply as possible. ~60 packs of these is enough to build basically any one deck you want if you're patient with trades.

Don't underestimate the power of the meme. 130 damage for just a DCE is potent in rapid succession. Spamming Teammates, Puzzle of Time and Buddy Buddy means you can maintain momentum throughout the game.

The game is terribly buggy on mobile but the actual client itself is decently solid.

The most issues I've had with it is it getting stuck for a few seconds but DCs and locking have been rare as of late.
This is from using windows however.

Just had a super painful match.

My opponent was playing some weird Wailord mill that my deck would crush 99% of the time, given how quickly it can start dealing massive damage. I couldn't do it though as he got everything set up because I faced the worst bricking ever.

In a deck with:

>2 Shaymin
>1 Hoopa
>3 Trainers' Mail

I managed to go 11 (Eleven) turns before getting a single draw Supporter or Shaymin-EX. I have never bricked that hard before and should have just conceded, but I didn't want to give up vs mill.

The frustrating part is that I would have destroyed him had I not drawn so badly.

The reason I didn't was that his deck was incredibly slow and I really did not expect to draw dead for so long. As I said, that was the worst bricking I've had and it was so improbable that I did not expect it to happen. It was just unfortunate that I caught some bad luck vs the most irritating type of deck.

If you want to go with a mill deck, then Houdoom-EX mill with Bunnelby is probably the way to go.

Firstly, I'd wait a few days so that the market can settle down. We don't yet know what the relative value of SM packs/cards will be.

After that, the general advice is to pick an uncommon staple/semi-staple. Buy in bulk (4-8 for 1 pack) and then sell in smaller groups. This should get you small but steady returns.

Alternatively, you can try out different cards to try and come up with your own unique trading strategy (which is what I did). You will be able to make packs in larger volume, but it takes more effort and it's impossible to give out specific advice (as giving out a profitable strategy will just lead to a market crash - as happened with Ariados).

What's the best way to spend the P gold coins? Just buying packs for 200 each?

Pretty much yeah. People sometimes recommend using them to enter Theme tournaments to win tickets to enter Standard tournaments, but imo this is a ridiculous waste of time.

You get quite a lot of tickets just for playing the game and learning to trade is a better way to get packs. Spend your tokens on Roaring Skies packs to try and land a Shaymin-EX, or just buy sleeves or whatever you like.

Yeah, that's similar to the numbers I was hitting with my trading during my last uni semester. My uni workload got really heavy though so I had to take a break from the game. I've just come back and so will need to come up with some new trading strategies.

Managed to convert a lot of my packs into cards before I quit, but I still have quite a few Steam Siege packs left over. Was a bit disappointed to see that they lost a decent chunk of value.

Do you think memeing it with Umbreon is gonna be good though? The idea of course is to get a bench full of Decidueyes up ASAP while I use Umbreon, a high HP easy to get up and low attack cost card to add to the chip damage and stall with high HP and stuff like bursting balloon. My only problem with superb owl is the lackluster 90 damage for 3 energy. Even if you have all 4 owls up that's only 150. Decidueye, Eevee, Espeon, Umbreon, and Tauros will all 100% certainly see high level competitive use.

Solgaleo, Lurantis, and Gumshoos will see some use but are a little more circumstantial. Solgaleo in particular is actually going to be better in expanded than in standard due to Bronzong PHF.

Kukui/Nest Ball/Timer Ball/Team Skull Grunt are all situational tech options that will see play in some decks

Incineroar/Lunala/Muk/Oranguru are cards that could be great after rotation but have too many bad matchups/better cards to use in the same role before it.

The reason you can't use Juniper and Sycamore in the same deck is because "Discard hand, draw 7 cards" is basically the best non-situational draw Supporter effect in the game, so it'd be too good/ridiculous if you'd be able to use 5-8 of them in your deck.
But you can use four Cheren, four Tierno, and four Hau in the same deck though. I'd imagine that the reason is because drawing 3 cards is decidedly mediocre.

But I do agree with that not being able to use Juniper in Standard is kinda stupid, since Sycamore does have the exact same effect down to the wording. Literally the only thing holding Juniper back from being used is one word: her name.

I like to use FA Sycamore even in Expanded though, because Chespin is one of my favourite Pokémon. I appreciate him hugging Sycamore's waist, or boning his ass, whichever one it is.

I get all the hype for Decidueye GX because its ability costs nothing and it can abuse FoGP and Revitalizer. Taurus GX I also understand because it puts decks that can't OHKO it into a serious pinch. But the Espeon GX and Umbreon GX I don't understand.

On their own they seem okay but not particularly above-the-curve. Umbreon's second attack is okay; 90 to the attacker and 30 on a bench isn't bad, but most people are playing EX-heavy decks, so the sniping damage isn't particularly brutal. And its GX attack is situational; some decks like Lurantis GX and Volcanion aren't going to mind it. And Espeon's second attack is a pretty obvious read, and most people don't stack past 3 energy, leaving you doing only 150. Granted, that's still a 2HKO, and you can tank some damage with 200 HP. It's GX attack also seems pretty situational.

Probably an elite trainer box, then go online, put your codes in, use those online packs to start building trade value and/or spend a few bucks to buy extra pack codes.

Build some decks online, figure out what playstyle you like the most and then once you kinda know what you're doing you can look at buying singles to make a deck.

Paper decks cost ~$80-160 to build from scratch depending on comp, online decks cost maybe one fourth of that. Non-Greninja decks aren't going to be below $100 for the most part since you need a pair of shaymins for basically every deck and that'll run you at least $80 on its own. Octillery is a MUCH cheaper option but it's also worse for most decks.

The difference between this list and other Raikou lists is heavier emphasis on Electrodes for energy which means you set up faster which is comfier for laddering. 4 levels/4 ultras let you get electrodes on the board super fast, burn your prize count down then spam N/Ace Trainer to fuck their hand up.

I have a second list as well with 2/2 electrode/voltorb and has some other minor differernces, no ace trainers, xp shares, 4 elixirs and 11 lightning energy, it's more stable since it goes for 2hkos instead of ohkos with Raikou but again, setting up fast makes kids gg out faster.

I finally pulled a Juniper FA the other day, about a week after finally pulling an X-Ball Mewtwo FA. It was a pretty fuckin' great week.

The packs were weird, though. They had new code cards, using the current design, not the old code cards from the original print runs of NXD and PLF. I'm not sure what that means. They may have been a very limited reprint of some BW sets a while back, or they were just recently packaged from old stock TPCi had found. They certainly weren't fake, I can tell you that.

Managed to get FA Lillie and FA Kukui for 5 SM each just a while ago now. I figured I might as well try and get one of each now since they seem like one-offs if they're going to be used, but perhaps I went a bit over price? SM packs will be fairly easy to get now since they'll be tournament rewards, so it's not a huge loss in that case, I suppose.

Kukui is actually pretty decent in some decks, takes 100 attacks to 120, with a belt you can hit 130 for KOs on most non EX/GX basics. Once choice band is a thing it'll let you do +50 to EX/GX which is huge for some decks.

As you said Kukui has much more immediate potential. I'm currently deciding how many to run. In most circumstances where I need to draw a whole lot, I'd rather have Sycamore or N which I already run 6-7 total. But I don't want to prize it or whiff drawing into the Kukui or VS Seeker to pull it back so often that I rarely get to capitalize on the +20 damage, meaning just 1 copy is risky. I think 2 might be a good place to start.

Also benefits from Decidueye, though toolbox is hard pressed to make room for it. Lurantis is another possibility for Vileplume decks.

I don't play irl, but that Lunala card is probably my favourite design in the Sun/Moon set. Most of the GXs look pretty terrible imo, but I like that wspecific card.

My favourite design in general is probably the Japanese version of Vikavolt. Non-Japanese cards don't have the silver border though, which is disappointing. I was considering buying a box of Sun/Moon, having not bought any cards since I was a kid, but the border was a deal-breaker.

Shiinotic is kind of useless imo, I get the idea there too, it's so you can search your deck for evolutions when Vileplume is item locking which lets you item lock very early. But you still need lots of item cards to make sure you can get that turn 1 Vileplume so you're filling your deck with dead draws.

First off, Lurantis can't use FFB and I don't understand why people can't remember what FFB actually does.

Second, you don't need to hit more than 120 if you're item locking them. Consistent 2HKO's (and one OHKO with the GX attack if you stack enough) while your opponent is floundering to get a board together without items is extremely potent. But you're right, people will need to find a way to make it consistent. This has always been Vileplume's bane and the huge difference between it and Trev or Toad.

You keep talking like there is some arcane secret behind FFB, all it does is lets you hit magic numbers by increasing your damage by an odd number and increases your HP by an even number which will put you above magic numbers turning expected OHKOs into 2HKOs. How much should I should value my sleeves now that Primal Clash ETBs are coming harder to come across especially due to their short prints for ETBs. I was thinking $10 - $12 a pop or even $15.

Yeah, it is. I was also arguing for 2HKOs since you need a massive deck investment (ie, multiples of Kukui and/or a full stage 2 line) to pull off OHKOs in a deck that already has a lot of moving parts searching for FOGP/Vileplume line and ideally trying to get a Lurantis up before item lock stops you from using balls.

Even choice band is kind of awkward, you can hit 170 with CB and a +20 card of some sort against EX, but you need 180 to reliably kill all of the non-mega EX cards, and 170 won't gain you an OHKO a on any GX cards.

Pretty meh, the main thing it has going for it is it's a stage 1 with a 3 energy 200 damage GX attack compared to Incineroar which has to get to stage 2 for that

Kind of shit but has synergy with normal Vikavolt. If Vikavolt was a dual grass/electric line it would be good because of FOGP. I guess you could make due with rare candies to get some vikavolts up fast but it's dependent on ability based energy movement in a format with garbodor and no reliable tool removal for him.

Memecore, I could see it working to some extent but float stones, the fact it needs 3 colored energies and things like pokemon ranger may make it a little too easy to work around, I guess it could spread damage for Decidueye snipes but it's a big investment to make for that.

Will be a fundamental component of any Eevee memedeck and a great card in any deck that runs fairy energy. Especially once Shaymin is gone and we're looking for new draw support.

Another card people might look to for a Shaymin replacement, but it blows your GX attack and leaves you highly vulnerable to N. Offensively it's actually pretty potent, hitting 150 for 3 colorless if you have damage on your bench. Could see it used in a Gyarados deck maybe, or any deck that runs rainbow energy even since it gives you an easy way to accumulate bench damage. With band you hit 180 against EX/GX which is a pretty good place to be.

Meme potential with Victini maybe, the GX attack can kind of fuck up decks that require multi turn special energy based setups but I don't see it being very good.

Maybe if TPCi and Pokemon Card Lab ended up being a single entity then it might be possible (like Wizards of the Coast with Magic), but with PCL releasing sets in a somewhat irregular intervals I'd rather have a consistent release schedule for each main expansion every three months than random sets being released every month or two. First time coming back to Pokemon TCG in about 2 years and picked up an Elite Trainer box of Sun/Moon. And what the hell is this energy card in each pack BS? Basically they've cut down the cards to 10 a pack.

Umbreon will probably be better after rotation, same with Espeon, Sylveon's also coming which will make Eevee memedecks really good. You even have rotomdex as a way to get 1 of Eeveelutions or your eevees out of prizes if you need to.

The card count has changed throughout the years, the number of cards included were reduced to 9 when Expedition was released due to the licensing for the cards to be e-reader compatible and it took quite a while until we get 10 cards per pack in 2007 (despite e-reader compatible cards were no longer a thing around 2004)
