They need to have the Gen VI pentagon or the Gen VII cross to be allowed in rated battles.

Gen V mons obviously have neither.

You can only play Rating Battles using Pokemon originally obtainable in the Alola region and those who came over from X/Y and ORAS which have the pentagon icon. Pokemon bred in gen 7 whose parents are previously unobtainable Pokemon are also illegal on Battle Spot.

Your Pokemon are legal, but rating battles only accept kalos-born and alola-born mons.

I don't get it, to be honest. Back in the day it was because most of the gen 5 mons were hacked, but now with PkHex it is more likely to see a gen 6+ hacked mon than a gen 5 hackmon.

Imagine having bred and trained a team of Bank Pokemon for days whose parents you got from the GTS, because you're not willing to pay for Bank, but then have to find out, you can't use them in rated battles :)
