GF could make a competent Rock/Ice-type if they wanted, they just don't want to

It's not even about that, as not even Aurora Veil could make it good. It's literally THE AURORA POKÉMON. It's part of its concept and design. It should learn the fucking move.
>>

YES! ALRIGHT! This is the millionth time you've said this already. JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT!

I don't think you know what that word means

Those are ice crystals.
>>
>>31663389
I think cradily is unironically the most usable non-aerodactyl fossil
>>
>>31663434
Lunatone got it in SM. Minior, Nihilego and Necrozma don't have crystals either.
>>
>>31663440
>not tyrantrum
Although cradily isn't that bad either
>>
>>31663471
Lunatone's eyes are gems, Minior's core is a gemstone, Nihilego is glasslike and Necrozma is a living crystalline prism. Try again.

I see someone inside GF likes Ninetales a lot.

>Nihilego is glass-like so it gets Power Gem
>Auroras is glass-like so it doesn't get Power Gem

I'd bet you dropped out of high school if I wasn't so sure you were in middle school.
>>
>>31663585
Aurorus looks like its covered in ice rather than glass
>>
>>31663585
A few ice crystals on its body is not the same as being literally made of glass.

Also, ice is not like glass despite its weaknesses in Pokemon. Either you're retarded enough to think ice is glasslike or you're making l'epic spongebob glass bones reference. Pretty sure you're the one in middle school, bud.
>>
>>31663389
Swift swom omaster and kabutops aren't terrible.
>>
>>31663633
A few crystals should be enough to learn Power Gem. Persian learns it and it only has a single jewel on its head.
>>
>>31663661
>a Pokemon with 1 gem in its design learns Power Gem
>a Pokemon with 0 gems in its design doesn't learn Power Gem
Wow I'm shocked.
>>
>>31663682
Do Nosepass and Probopass have gems anywhere on their bodies? I know that the latter has iron filaments, but not much else.
>>
>>31663682
The Mareep line's orbs are referred by the Pokedex and Mega Ampharos' page as lightbulbs and orbs, but not jewels, crystals or minerals.
>>
>>31663434
>a pokemon can't get this move because it doesn't fit by my standards !
I bet that when tutors drop, you wouldn't let Incineroar learn Fire Punch cause "wrestling isn't about punching !" or you wouldn't give Scrafty Gunk Shot if you had the chance.
But no, let's let a pokemon that desperately needs help with a base 60 power move that after just 5 or 8 turns you can't use it anymore.
>>
>>31663682
>what is Probopass
Yeah I sure am shocked.
>>
>>31663135
Cresselia can't learn it either despite Aurora Beam and northern lights design influences.

>>31663534
>bringer of spring
source? it's a phoenix or whatever other asian spicy bird legend, got access to burn up too
oddly no healing wish or regenaror but the kanto birds like (the used to be johto beasts) had a common body related ability theme as HAs, same for the regis

>a fire fox turns into an ice fox for no good reason
You must know that in Finland and other Scandinavian inhabitants the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights are said to be originated by the foxes sweeping their tails while hunting. I actually really liked the way the western influenced Alolan Ninetales lore mirrors the Japanese Ninetales one.

>>31663534
Articuno is known for helping those who are lost in the blizzards, I'd say Froslass is a better candidate as Snow Warning Pokemon. But so is fucking Kyurem that can't learn like 90% of common and pretty much given offensive Ice moves. Worst part are Glaceon and the Ice legendaries that lack Freeze Dry.

>to be specific

"In Finnish, the name for the aurora borealis is "Revontulet", which literally translated means "Fox Fires." The name comes from an ancient Finnish myth, a beast fable, in which the lights were caused by a magical fox sweeping his tail across the snow spraying it up into the sky."

I really like Ninetales as one of the few very successful designs and lores, both of them, especially at how they are both similar and opposite at the same time.

The Lapps, or the Saami, a people who are a close relative 'race' of the Finns, who live in Lapland — that is, north of the Arctic Circle, in what officially are Northern Finland, Sweden, and Norway — traditionally believed that the lights were the energies of the souls of the departed. When the fires blazed in the skies, people were to behave solemnly, and children were admonished to quiet down and be respectful of the fires. It was believed that whoever disrespected the fires incurred bad fortune, which could result in sickness and even death.

The Lapps believed these fires to have magical effects; Lappish shaman drums often have runes depicting the fires to harness their energy. The lights were believed to have a mellowing effect on arguments, and the time of the fires was beneficial to conflict resolution. The Lapps also had a belief that if you whistled under the Northern Lights, you could summon them closer, and they could whisk you away with them.

In Norwegian folklore, the lights were the spirits of old maids dancing in the sky and waving — in Scotland, which had an influx of Viking settlers, the lights are sometimes called "the merry dancers." Several of the Eskimo tribes also connected the lights with dancing. Eskimos in Eastern Greenland attributed the northern lights to the spirits of children who died at birth; their dancing caused the dancing lights. The Salteaus Indians of eastern Canada and the Kwakiutl and Tlingit of Southeastern Alaska also believed the lights to be human spirits, whereas an Eskimo tribe living on the lower Yukon River believed the dancers to be the spirits of animals. Young Labrador Eskimos, who believed that the northern lights were torches lit by the dead who were in playing soccer in the heavens with a walrus skull, in turn, would dance to the aurora.

The belief that the northern lights were caused by ancient heroes battling in the skies can be traced (in writing) as far as Pliny. Beliefs that the aurora were portents of war and sickness also can be read in the Greeks; one can only imagine how frightening these mysterious lights must have been in places where the lights were a rare phenomenon. Tacitus recorded in his description of Germany the belief that the fires were the Valkyries riding through the air. In the Americas, the Fox Indians of Wisconsin also believed the lights to be an ill omen—they believed the lights to be the ghosts of slain enemies waiting to take revenge.

Perhaps the loveliest of the beliefs comes from the Algonquin Indians. They believed that Nanahbozho the Creator, after he finished creating the earth, travelled to the far north, where he still builds great fires which reflect southward, to remind those he created of his lasting love.
>>
>>31663952
The thing is that Articuno's dex entry says that it freezes water in the air as it flies, making it snow.
>>
>>31663734
>>31663845
They magnetically attract gems and use them to fight.

tl;dr
Ninetales and Alolan Ninetales are fucking perfect and the Fairy type with the primary Ice type works wonderfully. I'm more concerned about Ninetales not being part Ghost or Fairy considering how much lore about curses and vengeance it has.

And Cresselia deserves Aurora Veil too.

Ancient Greece and the Romans

Aurora Borealis is derived from the Greek words “Aurora” meaning “sunrise” and “Boreas” meaning “wind”. For the ancient Greeks to have seen the lights there must have been some incredibly strong solar activity because sightings so far south are almost unheard of. The Greeks held that Aurora was the sister of Helios and Seline, the sun and moon respectively, and that she raced across the early morning sky in her multi-coloured chariot to alert her siblings to the dawning of a new day.

The Romans also associated the Northern Lights with a new day believing them to be Aurora, the goddess of dawn.

Most of the legends for either Borealis or Australis have common links with fires, beasts and spirits. Speaking of Aurora Beam Cresselia and Xerneas I think the latter one should learn Power Gem too, if I recall correctly it doesn't.
>>
>>31664027
It's a fantasy video game. Use your imagination.
>>
Nihilego gets Power Gem because GF wanted it to be good except against any and every Ground-type

Aurorus doesn't because GameFreak wanted to spite its fans

It's very simple, that's also why Silvally sucks dick and Pangoro is mediocre at best
>>
>>31663633

Except it's not literally made of glass.

>>31663608

Who cares what it looks like? Nosepass doesn't.
>>
>>31664366
So basically, Game Freak playing favourites as usual?
>>
>>31663952
Not the same guy, but one of Moltres' dex entries says it brings spring.

Also I didn't know A-Ninetales was based off of that legend. Makes me like it a little more now.
