Diamond/Pearl are disgusting early access betas, the ONLY excuse was that gamefreak wanted to intentionally take game design steps backwards to make the third version seem more desirable.

Only ever played platinum, never played diamond and pearl (never saw a point, and winter dawn is qtier)
What makes them so worse though? As far as I knew platinum just had giratina as it's focus and lot's of snow.
