My personal thought was that, to explain how Komala somehow manage their lives despite being asleep all the time, it's evolution would be a Normal/Psychic insomniatic parent, awake as it constantly keeps it's child out of harms way.

It works as a standalone mon, and is already viable as-is, thanks to solid stats and movepool in combination with one of the best overall abilities in the game.

Giving it an evolution would mean giving it even better stats and a cluttered, unpleasant design (where can they go from sleey koala that doesn't start getting cluttered?), ruining the mon in more ways than one.

Comatose is a fantastic ability, and the fact that Komala gets Rapid Spin and Wish is even better. You can also run a Bulk Up set.
