More than his coinflip attack I think he has some potential as a sky field carry, Assuming you use 1 of your bench for Shaymemes, you're hitting for 150 damage (160 with belt, and a max of 180 with belt and 8 benched fire types), on a pokemon with fucking 250 HP (280 with belt) for one BASIC energy. You can max potion the fuck out of him with zero worries and 2HKO anything while practically nothing will OHKO you.

Even Zoroark mind jack can't OHKO if you have a belt attached. Nest ball also makes it super easy to fill your bench up for sky field abuse.

That is true, it does have access to two other attacks while it's trying to rebuild its bench. The GX attack is nasty but the other one isn't good. And it'll force you to put three energy on it anyway which the whole appeal was that it only needed 1.

Also don't forget about Volcanion EX. Fills your bench and gives you 30 free damage.

Because A.) you don't need it, Ninetales already locks the stadium B.) it doesn't increase your damage for your attack and just occupies valuable bench space, and C.) in Expanded you will be item locked anyway because your most common opponents are Trevenant BREAK decks and Seismitoad decks.

You need FIRE TYPE pokemon on your bench. Incineroar's circle circuit clone only works with fire type pokemon. You can't get to max power with that lineup even if you actually drew both of your Ninetales and both Incineroars.

Flareon is a good idea for an alternate attacker though because it's energy hungry while Incineroar is under ideal circumstances energy light.

If you start with a Volcanion you might deploy Incineroar with 3 fire energies so you can use his GX move if you need to, then once the GX move is gone you can max potion him without a care in the world since he only needs 1 energy to attack with his main move.

most people are looking at nest/timer balls, Lurantis GX, Solgaleo GX, Espeon/Umbreon GX.

But there are a lot of good cards in this set as well as a lot of funny memes. Gumshoos GX and Skull Grunts are my favorite concept wise. Gumshoos can look at the opponent's hand once per turn which makes N/Ace Trainer hyper effective disruption, Skull grunts reveal your opponent's hand and let you pick two energies to discard from it, Tsareena lets you reveal hand and discard ANY card upon evolution.

Deevolution spray with FOGP up and if you see another card you don't want your opponent to have you can double activate Tsareena and discard a second card. Lot of strategic disruption options available.

Trevenant, Talonflame, substitutes, ect, do not count towards increasing damage on Incineroar's bench based attack. That is why you need other fire types to support him.

Besides, I find running without alternate attacker options severely limiting especially when you can't ability/move effect lock, if you run into a Glaceon with Incineroar you just lose that matchup if it has enough energy to attack and you can't lysandre it in and pick it off. If you have a Flareon you have a way to deal with that.

It's bad because it lowers the amount of damage you can do with Incineroar. There is a distinct anti-synergy between the pokemon. There are tons of item lock trev decks you can do. Incineroar, if you're building for him, probably belongs in standard because of the number of things that can absolutely ruin him in expanded (archeops, trev, seismitoad, ect).

very rarely do rare candy decks not include at least 1 of the middle evo for the sake of consistency because it allows you to, for example, use two ultra balls to get your evo instead of absolutely needing to draw a rare candy. You could lower it to 1, but 2 is safer.

Flareon is included as a pokemon to absorb the extra energy that Volcanion can provide, that Incineroar doesn't really need. It's not the only way around Glaceon, you could use a pokemon ranger, but using Flareon both adds a fire pokemon to the bench and adds extra versatility, a second potential win condition.

Here's my observations from the three cases me and my friends opened on average

- ~4 Regular GXs (69 EXs in total)
- 1~2 Full Art cards (27 FAs in total)
- 0~1 Hyper Rare / Secret Rare (the 18 boxes have 10 Hyper Rares and 6 Secret Rares, missing Lunala GX HR, Rotom Dex SR, and Metal Energy SR. One of the cases have 1 HR/SR in every box while the other two cases have 1 box have none)

I feel that we get a bit less Full Art rares than before, which is probably "compensated" by the Hyper Rares We will not be looking forward to SM2, fuck PCL for printing two large sets in a row

Because printing new cards with the same effect as old cards is retarded, Sycamore should've never been a straight Juniper reprint to begin with, and thank fuck Kukui is a brand new card.

Also, I'm guessing Evolutions will rotate at the same time as Steam Siege, so even if Professor Oak's Hint was a reprint of Sycamore, it would rotate at the same time as Sycamore anyway.

What Oak's Hint should've done was just prevent you from attacking the turn you play it. Then it could've been a somewhat playable card with a unique effect. Instead it's just a Tropical Beach in a supporter.

Which is comical because those are the only time periods in the entire TCG that had such a powerful draw supporter (Base Set-on being especially bad because Oak was considered an Item).

In the decade-long gap between when Base Set rotated out (2001) and Black and White base set was released (2011), we've only had three cards anywhere near as powerful. All three of them have you shuffle your hand into your deck and then draw a number of cards. First was Professor Elm, which drew 7, and even though it was an Item still, it said you couldn't play anymore Trainers for the rest of the turn. Two years later when Expedition was released we got the Supporter Oak's Research which drew you 5. Then 8 years later we got Oak's New Theory in HGSS which compromised on drawing 6, which got reprinted again in CoL.

And THEN we got Juniper. Hopefully in 2018 we'll be rid of this cancer for awhile.

It's not really that good. There are some advantages to it; for instance, the 250 HP keeps it free from OHKO's (for the most part) and it has two other attacks if their bench size is limited. But for the most part it's outclassed at the moment. Like most everything in this set, it will get better with rotation (except for Dicidueye GX which gets worse).

The problem with the new cards is that they are slower than the things we've seen in the last few years.

EXs were a gift from Arceus, they were powerful basic Pokémon that could do big amounts of damage since the begining of the games. GXs are (for now) slow Pokémon that need to evolve (in most cases for now) like BREAKs, exs or Lv. X.

I hope I am wrong and the new meta evolves into the fastest of all time, even faster than Weiss Schwarz or Yu-Gi-Oh!

I'd say those are pretty good pulls from 8 packs. Both Tauros and Gumshoos are viable and can be splashed in quite a few decks. Tauros will be big in EX/basic attacker decks, especially Vileplume Toolbox variants. Gumshoos just makes any disruption twice as effective.

I think Lapras-GX is a highly overrated card in this set. It's basically an active supporter. The HP is nice but the attack is too costly for an 'every other turn' style attack (compare it to Hoopa STS, it's a little bit better but it's also a 2 prize card), the card has no real application after the first few turns so if you can't draw it in those early hands it's basically dead weight. The GX move is nice to combo with its every other turn attack but I think more people are going to be carrying anti-status effect stuff.

The one thing I think it has going for it is its HP tier that makes it awkward to OHKO and the fact that its basically guaranteed to tank lots of damage due to only being able to attack every other turn makes it combo well with Tauros-GX.

The best way to start is to buy an Arena Duel Deck box, comes with two completed decks loaded with all the staples you'll need to build a deck. The two decks on their own are bad but you can extract out all of the generic cards to build a good skeleton. There will be cards that are only legal in Expanded, set those aside, it's better to start with Standard format. These cost $30. Now you have a skeleton - you'll need the Pokemon next. Most Standard decks use EX cards which cost $4-15 a piece depending on which deck you want to build. Some decks don't - Gyarados and Vespiquen decks just use rares and uncommons.

There is a card used in every competitive Pokemon deck called Shaymin EX. It's like Pot of Desires in Yugioh - a key constituency card. Like Desires, it goes for a shit ton of money - $50 usually. But you can play without it if you're a good enough player, but you will be at a disadvantage against every player that has it.

One deck doesn't need to run it and that deck is Greninja. There are lists available all over the web including Pokemon's own website. That's a good place to start, I think. Greninja BREAK is the only expensive card in the deck ($12 a piece).

2 wave slashers gives you most of a greninja deck but you're probably better off buying individual cards, Greninja BREAKs will probably run you about 10 bucks a pop though and you need at least 3 of them. Talonflames cost about $3-5 and many variants include 4 of those as well. You need 4 vs seekers which are about $4-7 each as well if you're buying them low but you will use these in literally every deck. As long as you're not blinging a lot of the obligatory shit like ultra balls and sycamores are like 50 cents each.

Shaymins are about $40-50 a pop and most decks, other than Greninja which uses dive balls, frogadiers and often Talonflames as draw engines instead, will want at least two of them. Some use 3, rarely 4 but there are sharply diminishing returns over 3 imo.

the 'average' cost of building a competitive deck, from scratch, with individuals, assuming you have NO cards is maybe $80-160 depending on what you want to run and how much you shop around. Compared to some other TCGs it's not too bad, and it will HOPEFULLY get cheaper once Shaymin is rotated out.

Shaymin is literally more than 50% of the cost of your typical decklist in this game. I hope TCPI recognizes this as an issue instead of as an opportunity to reprint that cancerous fucking card.

Again, as someone who has worked in the TCG resale industry, those are probably pulls from multiple booster cases. Most mid to large sized card shops, especially online shops want to build up a solid stock of singles for the early rush demand. Price flexibility is much higher on individuals than it is on packs so the initial shifts and shocks in demand as people incorporate new cards into competitive play you can increase price according to increased demand.

The disadvantage is bad or mediocre individuals tend to move very slowly, but cards are very small items so it's not like you have to warehouse them.

What really impresses me is out of ALL of those packs, there is only 1 FA Ultra ball and tiny stacks of other trainers compared to the thick stacks of pokemon. The FA trainer cards will probably keep pack value inflated pretty well into the future. Plasma Freeze is still the only pack on par with ROS because of SR Ultras.

I highly suspect that SR/HRs aren't as rare as we thought they would be. FA trainers will be rare and that will keep pack value high, but I'm offloading all of the gay pride cards I get for some mega value atm. Might kick myself for it later but I got a case coming in the mail anyways.
