Blind people's hearing is too sensitive. If they stand too close to a friendly Boomburst, they'd blow their eardrums out. That's the joke with the deaf trainer; she has Soundproof to protect herself from her own Pokemon's attacks.

Maybe disabilities are like status conditions and can be healed by a Pokemon Center. Would explain why there haven't been any physically disabled characters in the entire franchise.

There are some older characters who seem to use canes/walking sticks, some of the Gentlemen, as well as Ghetis, so Pokemon world isn't a utopia of perfect health
