Otherwise we get stuck with Misty holding Togepi for 200 episodes, Iris only got some more battles because of the Don battle tournaments, and Serena rarely ever got to have battles that weren't interrupted. Now the SM girls probably won't do much in the way of major battles either.

It's kind of ironic all the things the writers started with May they wound up doing again later on with all the other girls:

1. May had a dislike/disinterest of pokemon, repeated with Lillie

2. May didn't know what she wanted to do and took a while to find her goal, which was like Serena.

3. May became a coordinator, which then Dawn was as well.

4. May looked up to Ash and he acted as a mentor toward her, something he would do with Dawn to an extent and Serena.

5. May got an old starter because of a remake game, same as Dawn with Cyndaquil.

6. May decided to go to a different region than Ash to go off on her own and find her own style, similar to Serena's reason to leave

7. May had a shipping subplot in her Contests, similar to Serena

8. May was the first obvious "fanservice" girl of the pokemon anime, something repeated with all other girls

There are a few dynamics, not many and many characters feel shafted.

Lana and Sophocles haven't had enough time to really merge with the rest of the cast.

Sophocles in general feels like a background character whose sole purpose is to make a comment every now and then.

Look at the most recent episode, he appeared to spray rotom with his water gun, that was it. His screen time could have been cut and nothing would have changed.

Ash vs Clemont mostly because of the extreme build up and the hype it created. hype that is non existent now. Plus we had never seen that kind of godly animation before.

The first battle against Wulfric is also one of my favorites. Ash being desperate as fuck to win to prove himself to Shota and Avalugg sweeping his team. It was a great lose.

Korrina's Gym will always be #1 for me because of the build up and hype that was experienced in the threads at that time. It was incredible and the victory over Lucario made it all the sweeter.

Valarie and Olympia's gyms are also some of my favorites.

Brobowl as well because of everything surrounding it. Nearly 2 years of build up, Clemont leaving the party, Goomys quick evolution prior, the pottery at the start of the fight with Pikachu VS Bunnelby.

God, what a fun time to watch the show.

Ash used Pikachu, Charizard and Snorlax against Claire's Gyarados, Dragonair and Dragonite. It was probably the most hype battle at the time.

I saw May the first time back in 2002 on Serebii's ep pics, but didn't watch an AG ep till 2003 when the first dub ep aired.

I was a teenager at the time and May had bigger boobs than most of the girls in my classes. Once I saw May's first episode I never looked back. I didn't even know what a "waifu" was back then.
