That said. I feel like if anyone should have got Charmander. It should have been Brock. He did way more for it in the episode than Ash did, and Brock's got way more experience raising Pokemon. He would have tought Charizard to mind... Or atleast Onix would have.

When Ash sent out Charizard, Ritchie had Sparky and Zippo (Pikachu and Charmander) left. Pidgeotto was tired from flying Ash there, Squirtle and Pikachu were beaten, Bulbasaur had a disadvantage against Zippo.

Ash could have won if he brought Muk.

Ash had options. Why did he bring Charizard. Why.

He had Muk. He had Kingler. I don't think he even used his Pidgeotto in the League. And he brings Charizard.

One of the things that's always bothered me about how they handled Charizard was how everyone told Ash he should have trained it properly.

How the fuck are you supposed to train something that either assaults you or lazes around literally every time it's called out?

The whole reason Ash even got Charizard to actually listen to him was by saving him from freezing to death. Is this kind of scenario something that normal trainers deal with on a regular basis, and Ash was incompetent for not putting his Pokemon into a life-risking situation that he'd have to save him from?

Wasn't the reason it didn't listen because it evolved to quickly or something. Like Ash forced it to evolve into Charmeleon which is why the thing became lazy and didn't listen and that only got worse when it evolved again.

To be fair, it was pure chance Richie won in EToP too. The return mechanism of his Charizard's pokeball stopped working suddenly, and Ash's Charizard was pretty much ripping it apart. Ash threw the match by withdrawing Charizard, or he would have killed Richie's.
