>A new species of dicynodont has been described from the Karoo Basin of South Africa, which researchers have dubbed Bulbasaurus phylloxyron. Pokémon fans around the world rejoice!
>The name actually refers to the ‘bulbous’-shaped nose that Bulbasaurus has, rather than being a fan-based dedication to the chubby but lovable lizard-like original starter Pokémon.
>“There is nothing alive today quite like them, but they were the most successful herbivores of their time,” said lead author Dr. Christian Kammerer of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin.
Kanto pandering lol

It looks like a Nosepass.
>>31614331
this desu
but would you fuck it?
>no feathers
NO
EVERY DINOSAUR MUST HAVE FEATHERS
IT'S A RULE
THIS, AND THAT ALL CATS SHOULD BE INDOOR
Aerodactyl now has a pal
>using English names
Fucking casuals. Bulbasaur is more of a toad and the Japanese name is just mysterious seed.
>>31614369
I don't think the Bulbasaur line are meant to resemble any particular animal, they're just plant monsters.
>>31614295
Gen 1 and the English language win again.
Poor weeb scum and newgenner scum!
>>31614347
Pretty sure synapsids never had feathers. They were considered to be more mammal-like compared to other dinosaurs.
>>31614533
Yep, says so in the article
>Let’s go back to the Permian period, around 260 million years. Life was quite blissful, with no dinosaurs tearing up the turf as of yet.
>Animals from this period were bizarre experimentations, with early ancestors evolving for some of the well-known groups still around today, like crocodiles, turtles and mammals.
>Some of these include the dicynodonts, who despite looking more ‘reptilian’, are actually the precursors of early mammals. They were pretty weird looking, like a cross between a turtle and a wild boar. Dicynodonts, mammals and all other animals more closely related to mammals than any other egg-laying animals are called ‘synapsids’, and a pretty important group. Even humans are synapsids, so dicynodonts are like our great, great, great (etc.) grand-cousins.
This thing is related to us
>>31614651
everything is related to us if you go back far enough anon

*Karoo pandering
Not the first time it happened
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerodactylus
This one was actually named after a Pokemon too
>>31614533
They're not even dinosaurs.
Who /grassbro/ here?
>>31615217
>no guys it means 'wind finger', how unprofessional do you think we are
LIZARDS NAMED AFTER CHARMANDER: 0
TURTLES NAMED AFTER SQUIRTLE: 0
WE WIN AGAIN BULBABROS
>>31615266
Explain.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikachurin
>>31614383
This.
Also their names are word puns: It's "Isn't it Strange", "It seems Strange", and "It's Totally Strange", which sound like Mysterious Seed, Grass, and Flower.
>>31615424
People were really mad about that, too, because science doesn't mind if you jam YOUR name all over something newly discovered, but you can't make a reference.
There's a gene called Sonichedgehog with its inhibitor gene being Robotnikin, but scientists are mad because, since an error in it would cause brain damage and limb shortening, they don't want doctors to look stupid saying that a kid has a disorder in their Sonic Hedgehog gene (which is stupid, because the genes closest to it are call Desert Hedgehog and Forest Hedgehog).
>>31615268
A turtle what spits water against predators or prey would probably be called "Tajiri's Turtle" at best.
>>31614295
>synapsid
This is not a dinosaur. They're the group that mammals descended from. Dinosaurs were a very specific ancient group of reptiles/birds.
>>31614295
>dicynodonts are dinosaurs
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>31614295
BTFO the naysayers who kept saying Bulbasaur's line aren't synapsids.
>>31614347
Not even most paleofags are like that (or at least most aren't). Certain families, sure, but not Stegosaurs, Sauropods, Ankylosaurs, etc. Theropods likely all had feathers of some kind, and ceratopsians likely all had quill-like structures near their back.
>bulbasaur will never be a pokemon
FUCKING GAMEFREAK STOP MAKING SHIT FOSSILS AND GIVE ME A BULBASAUR IN POKEMON
It's not a dinosaur you stupid assholes fuck you
bulba
>>31614295
It lookscute!

How long until Nintendo sends a cease and desist?
>>31618255
They only bothered to do that with Zbtb7.
>>31614347
Too bad that's not a dinosaur.
>dicynodont
>dinosaur

>>31614326
REEEEEEEE THEY WON'T NAME A DINOSAUR HAXSAURUS TO CELEBRATE OUR GLORIOUS MASTER RACE GEN
>>31619199
That's the dumbest fucking argument I've ever heard.
