Anon, all I've said had bases. Look up eskrima or any martial art that uses weapons. I'm not saying girders are standard martial art weapons but the entire line's concept lends to use of weapons. Have you not heard of the idea that an extremely skilled master can use anything as a weapon?

Strength is supported by its high Attack and aesthetic (having obvious veins/vascularity is a desirable attribute in body building), skill is supported by its capability to make concrete and its dex entries also emphasizes its reliance on technique

Conkeldurr has "elder" in its name, in Japanese, Robushin references "bushido", which is way of the warrior (basically for samurai). The knob on its head represents a topknot

What always gets me is how these two lines look -nothing- alike but they both get treated like Pikachu and Pachirisu. Even their concepts are different. If Conk was in any other gen but 5, it probably would never get compared to Machamp.
Its only their statistics that are similar; 3 stage pure-fighting type, high Attack, low Speed, last evo requires trading.

It is very interesting. On the one hand, I agree with you--their concepts are vastly different, but on the other hand, you missed a number of similarities as well.

Machamp is based on body building, western wrestling and other martial arts, with references to japanese pop culture (Kinnukuman), and Hindu deities. Machamp line focuses on muscularity aspect of body building. There also seems to be a hint of reptilian to avian evolutionary reference.

Conkeldurr is based on construction workers, strong carnies, references to bushido/bushin (way of the warrior, martial spirit), drunken elder warlords and possibly, ogres/oni. Conkeldurr emphasizes vascularity over muscularity.

I mean that comparison list is as far removed from each other as you can, which is why I give GF props on making the Conkeldurr line reminiscent of the Machamp line without being too similar.

What they have in common
>3 stage line
>3:1 male to female ratio
>last stage reached by trading
>both share Guts as an ability
>both "wear" clothes (belt+speedo vs safety vest/harness)
>have some aspect of man-made object (belt vs weapons)
>both double their weapons at the last stage (2 to 4 arms vs 1 to 2 held weapons)
>both act as an elite four's ace (Bruno and Marshal B2W2) in their debut gen

I legitimately think this is one of the smarter throwbacks GF came up with.
