Make it a direct sequel to SM and have a few characters reappear.

Make Mega Alolan Red-Charizard Alpha Sun Omega Moon Z a thing.

For one, a massive chunk of Pokemon would be removed.

For a start, removal of all starters who's not named Charizard, Blaziken, Greninja and Decidueye.
Next up, removal of all pokemon who're redundant and are completely outclassed by other pokemon. Pokemon lines would be included in the removal list would include Luvdisc, Seaking, Delcatty, Flygon and Steelix.
And then, removal of all unpopular pokemon who already blew their first and second chances at becoming popular. For example, Mr. Mime, Jynx, Garbodor, Vanilluxe, Barbaracle and Gothitelle.
Then removal of useless legendary pokemon like the Lake Pixies, Genies, Musketeers and Heatran.
Finally, removal of most final evolutions who ruins their lines. Such as Crabominable, Rhyperior, Electivire and Dragonite. The pre-evos would be buffed to compensate.
