Is there a known percentage of Pokemon who choose to stay, at least? That would make me feel more comfortable. I'd probably guess about 30% myself, but I'm just pulling numbers out of the air.

Magikarp only takes roughly 1k steps to hatch, while most others take between 5k-10k. You go through eggs much faster with the karp method. Think of it as an always-active, super-overpowered Hatching O-Power.

Quick disclaimer, I've never actually tried this, but yes this is what people have been saying.

You can keep playing normally otherwise. If you check on it tomorrow and it's not there, reset until it is. Only way to screw it up is if you save after you've already checked and it wasn't there.

If you want to be really safe you can save every time before you go into Pelago I guess.

No problem. Just remember to never save while owning any unhatched eggs, and to always take out the Magikarp parent once you receive your 30th egg. And if you really want, you can even do what I did and breed a 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 IV Magikarp so that you can see at a glance which stats the offspring will inherit and from which parent. It's incredibly useful. Which is ironic because I named him King Useless.

Why does this matter? If I reset without hatching them, it shouldn't affect what seeds are passed to the previous Pokemon. If you reset with extra eggs you just never know what's in them. Or am I missing something?

Shiny pichu/pikachu have a lot more intensity in their palette than normal so it's not too hard to see, considering most mons' normal palettes are washed out.

The point is that if you're doing the Magikarp method and you save with unhatched eggs, there's no manipulating them later. If one of them turns out to be the shiny you're looking for, and you saved before hatching it, then congrats, you're stuck with a shiny Magikarp.

Update: Just got back home from work, started up my game, and saw this in my Pelago without even needing to SR.

Some people hunt shinies. I let my shinies come to me.

So I was trying to SOS Drampa before.
Or at least I was until I lost my goddamn mind after like 50 turns, on which only like 2 did it call for help and it didn't arrive.

What am I doing wrong? How can I maximize the odds for calling help?

Drampa's SOS rate is rare.

Also I have some spare 4-5V Level Ball Drampa breedjects if you want one. They're Modest, and have Echoed Voice, Mist, Dragon Rush, and Hurricane as egg moves. Will take a breedject of yours in exchange.

SOS chaining is a good way of getting shinies but not these ones m8.
If you are insistent on using Drampa as your target, I'd advise using Unnerve, Intimidate, but not Pressure.

I absolutely despise breeding and will not even do it to fill my pokedex (I trade for the prevos needed), so I never really got on the Masuda method thing.

Don't beat yourself up it's not the end of the world. That Pichu is totally usable. Raichu has garbage defence to begin with so it's not the worst nature. Just bottle cap the sp atk and speed and EV train into sp atk and speed and you are golden.

over 1500 spanning 3 games, the true total count was lost sometime after I lost my OR. it started with Y with about 30 boxes into the mix, lost the count to OR since I lost OR itself, and finally got it in Sun after 542 eggs. apparently RNGsus thought that prank was too much even for him so 12 eggs after that porygon was finally hatched, another one popped out, and I was nearly in tears. and that's the story of my longest drought

I have played every game since GS (except RS) and I have had shinies in only 2 games and in a short period of time for each game

In 2 weeks I got (from random encounters) Shiny Ponyta, Drowzee, Lanturn and Tentacruel in HG

In a 2 week period again in X I got from (random encounters) Shiny Durant and Coragunk and then (from MM breeding) a Bold 5IV (Non Atk) Adaptability Feebas

Only other one was a Shiny Regice in B2

Why does it seem like it takes far far far more boxes to hatch a shiny National Dex mon with the MM and Shiny Charm in SM?

I actually hatched an entire box of shiny Alolan dex pokemon in a fucking week, but ever since Bank came out, I haven't gotten a single one in over 20 boxes of multiple species.

Apparently I ran out of Leftovers to stick on bulky pokemon, so I elected to get some more. Apparently, just as I'm about to Thief the last Muchlax (using 5 Butterfrees with Thief), it summons shiny. Unfortunately, it might be hard to distinguish in the picture, but it helps to have the non-shiny adjacent for comparison. It's my second ever (and incidentally encountered) shiny in Moon. On a different note, it was unusually fortuitous that the first shiny I got was smeargle, because I basically raised it optimally to tackle the task of completing the alola pokedex.

It's way easier to get the shiny but you need to synchronize it. If you don't want the tedium of collecting eggs or simply don't have the time to collect 800 eggs for a shiny, it's way better in every way. Otherwise if you do have the patience, breeding produces one more perfect IV (with the right parents) and has the desired nature, so it's better there.

So I have two 5IV parents, and a destiny knot. How do I guarantee that the resulting (soon-to-hatch) shiny has the correct IVs? (perfect 5IV, including attack but not special attack)

Do both parents have all 5 IVs in everything but special attack? Put an Everstone on the parent you want to pass on the nature and the other parent gets the destiny knot. Even then though the offspring may not be perfect, knot only passes on 5 IVs and the 6th is random.

Just got this shiny squirtle off wondertrade after trading off my excess ralts. Same 6IV garbage with leftovers. My heart dropped when I saw the slight change in color only to be disappointed. It's like winning the lottery, only to find out your winning ticket is fake and can't turn it in (aka using it online) 'sigh' Another shiny to condemn to the trash. Regardless, I've already thrown it out. If somethings too good to be true, it usually is. The one thing that's worse than no shiny is one that someone genned in in less than 5 minutes. Also when you consider the global link challenge is trading and I got the shiny genesect and squirtle in less than 24 hours, I think people are just giving them away to get closer to the goal of 1 million.

It can be used as a utilitymon with Rapid Spin or a physcial attacker with triple STAB. Keep in mind that its Speed is shit so Gyro Ball is very good on it. Power Whip, Anchor Shot and Shadow Claw are good moves to go through the game with, and you can give it EQ later on. Impish, Relaxed, Brave and Adamant are good natures.

So with pokebank open, and lots of pokemon available, I am really tempted to wipe my Moon save and play over.

I figure I can make a living dex for moon in the bank, drop it into my game at the start and get a Shiny charm as soon as possible.
