What's the deal with Safari Balls? Each time I try to inject a 'mon in a safari ball it always gets flagged as illegal, but putting it in a regular pokeball makes it ok?
Is there any logic behind this, or is it just another one of GameFreak's shenanigans?

There is literally ONE step you can fuck up, and the system forces you to make a back-up beforehand so you can't brick

You cant ruin your save. If anything, god bless that you can export and therefor back them up on your computer

You cant get banned unless you mess with your save file in a bad way (like changing your gender, or obtaining impossible item like more than 1 tinted clothing piece, as you cannot have more than one)

Ignore the other anons, cfw is not required to inject. Just use soundhax to launch homebrew, it takes max 15 mins. Download jksm into your 3ds folder and then youll have the ability to back up your save and edit it by using the program pkhex on your PC. Just inject mons and dont inject items or pokedex entries and I guarantee you will not get banned. It is SUPER easy to just inject. And if you like what youll see, maybe youll get a taste for the freeshop and youll want take it a step further and install CFW. That will take around an hour and thirty minutes if you predownload all the stuff you need. Dont get scared of hacking especially if youre just going to inject. All it takes is 15 mins, your sd card, your pc, and internet.

As far as I know, GameFreak have gotten a bit more strict with Pokeballs. They now seem to disallow Pokemon that can't be obtainable in certain Balls. So if I were to inject say, a Phantump in a Safari Ball it'd be flagged as illegal. Smogon has a whole page on Pokeball inheritance, so you could use that as a rough guideline. Safari Balls aren't illegal, just on some things it seems.

i've tried with the prepatched bins but when i try to load moon through HANS, nothing happens at all, it just sends me back to the homebrew launcher. the patcher does nothing in my virtual computer so i don't know how to proceed.

JKSM worked just fine but i really just want those sexy outline-less renders.

The issue for me is that the pokemon I've been trying to inject are native to the safari zone, meaning that their should be clear to be in a safari ball.
For example, this is me >>31599459 . Last thread, I tried to get the same exact Rhydon but in a safari ball (because you can get a Rhyhorn in FRLG Safari Zone), but it was rejected. I then retried but only changing the safari ball to a regular pokeball, and it was fine.
This specific case wasn't all that important to me, but I'm more concerned over how my legit pokemon I caught in the Safari Zone/Great Marsh will be affected. Some of my favorite/best guys are caught in Safari Balls and I don't know if they'll be allowed in online play.

You don't even have to do CFW, just get Soundhax and then Steelhax as a secondary entry point. Doing that cannot fuck up your 3DS as you are literally just adding files onto your own SD Card. (Also you can do things like back up your save file, which would REALLY insure that you don't lose your Pokemon.)

really an unrelated question for this thread but, how do you feel about just injecting the entire pokedex?

i've always made living dexes but skipped gen6 and now i'm starting from pretty much zero and all the stupid mechanics like friend safari or rustling spot/horde exclusives are making me real tired of it.

i got save editing working mostly to fix some natures and get the 20th anniversary distributees but now i'm wondering why would i care about it anymore, when i can just make the entire thing in one go.

So I'm currently trying to install homebrew on my n3DS but I'm new to all this and kind of dumb so I have a few possibly obvious questions

I've reached the part where it's prompted me to make a back-up and it turns out my SD card (the one that came with the console) isn't large enough, even though I cleared it before starting. So two questions:

1. If I back out now, will there be any damage done, or can I just delete all this shit off my SD and continue using the 3DS as before?
2. If I decide to push on, will I need to buy a bigger SD and start from scratch to ensure a back-up is saved?

Sorry if these are obvious or whatever, I don't have much prior experience with this.

Question re Homebrew

I just got to the Luma configuration section (confirmed Autoboot, SysNAND with R, Show NAND in System Settings etc.) Hit Start to save and the console is still on (blue light) but the screen is black. The next step I have to follow is "boot while holding start", I assume it's safe to turn off? Or is there something I'm missing? I'm an idiot at this kind of stuff, pls forgive.

No, thats normal. It means it's not off yet. When you're running a custom piece of software (e.g. not a game), sometimes you can hit the power btn but it wont turn off. You need to keep it pressed for like 5 seconds or so until the light is off too. Remember it cause it will happen again.
