I don't know how I will be this generation, but last gen I took frequent long breaks from playing XY and Oras and occasionally hopped back on to see how things were doing. I assume there are a good number of people who did this. This method of distribution punishes people for not being 100% attentive to the games through the course of a year.

Time to inject the remaining rocks onto my offline hacked game so I can trade over any I miss to my online game when the time comes.

From one point, this encourages people to play the competition and the meta evolves gradually.

From another, they should have been available on the game from the beginning since most of the players don't care about the meta or competitions and just want to use their bros. Also limiting what you can use is a good way to annoy players, and if they take long enough with all the megas, people will just don't care about it anymore.

Simple decisions like that are what make people shit on GF.
