The Fletchling could've been caught in Kalos. Even if it wasn't, there's possibility it could be found in Kanto. Remakes change Pokedexes a lot. The last time we went to Kanto was too long ago to be sure. They also have a Rhyhorn.

But why does it need to be pushed so hard? The blank state is what they're going to be using in all of the promotional material and such, so making it good is the best way to go about it. Customization isn't available from the start. You're going to be playing as the default character for some time, at least, so it would make sense to make them good looking, rather than boring. Either way, if they're going to be designing so many other characters, two more aren't going to increase the work by much.

I can understand why someone would think this way, but this reasoning just doesn't sit well with me. Probably because I like their designs, so they don't seem like blank states to me.
