Sort of a dumb question. It's like saying, "Why is music so divisive? Some songs have their ups and downs but its all music in the end." People have different tastes and think some music is better than other music. Same with pokemon.

It wen't from a game where you could do badges 4 through 7 in any order with quite little story to a linear sighseeing tour with cutscenes at every corner. It has changed a lot.
