The Bulbasaur Line:
So other than being strange, what type of animal are they?
Why have we never seen a bulbasaur or ivysaur standing on their hind legs despite the gen 1 pokedex entries?
Could the plant on bulbasaur's back survive without the pokemon?
Could Bulbasaur survive without the plant?

> So other than being strange, what type of animal are they?
I've always assumed some kind of frog
> Why have we never seen a bulbasaur or ivysaur standing on their hind legs despite the gen 1 pokedex entries?
Not really important, think of a horse standing on it's hind legs when scared or something.
> Could the plant on bulbasaur's back survive without the pokemon?
Probably not.
> Could Bulbasaur survive without the plant?
Probably not.

I always thought they were Synapsids, something like Dicynodont or Lystrosaurus. Other people say Beelzebufo, but I never really got the "frog" impression from them, what with their mammalian ears and little canine teeth in their mouth.

I've always leaned towards a dinosaur influenced frog.
To be fair, turtles aren't known for their fluffy tails or powerful water jets coming from their shell.
