Because Game Freak would rather have Ash fail another League rather than do something with an actual story. I remember watching the original Rescue Team special (the one that premiered before the premier of Battle Frontier that one fateful Friday night) and seeing that little "To Be Continued" at the end. I held on the the belief that they would make a series out of it for 5 years before giving up hope. The first Explorer's special gave me that little bit of hope back, but then dashed it when the special for Sky left the "To Be Continued" out of the credits.

I can't get off to TG at all, and for me TF is best when it involves a little pain or is a punishment of some sort. All those myths about bad people getting turned into animals/monsters gave little-me the most questionable stiffy. I still wouldn't mind being a Pokemon though, especially a powerful one. But MD style isn't my cup of tea. I hate my fetish.
