Why is Mantine OU? Was the 20+ in hp really that good?
>>31551720
It also learns Roost now.
>>31551720
It also got Roost, man. Now it can compete against the big boys with its bird bro Skarmory.
>>31551732
>>31551734
Well shit! Got into comp fairly recently. Didn't know that reliable recovery was all it needed.
>>31551720
With recovery, it's now a reliable special tank, with the ability to remove hazards and scald
>>31551720
A total Water immunity is a good selling point for Mantine; it can switch into Scald without risking a burn. Unfortunately, the omnipresence of Tapu Fini as a status blocker and Defogger has kinda rendered Mantine obsolete. It also has to compete with Toxapex.
I'm actually kinda surprised that I've never seen Mantine on stall. Guess it's a Mega Venusaur vs. Amoonguss all over again.
>>31551720
Im still unsure if mantine will even stay in OU at the moment
Its good but UU might be a better home for it
>>31551720
Defensive Pokemon relies too much on instant recovery nowadays
>>31552896
More like always.
Recovery is make or break for defensive mons.
>>31551761
All some Pokemon need is a little reliable recovery.
I remember when I had to run aqua ring + leftovers :') does my heart good
>>31551761
Also loses half of its Electric weakness on the turn it uses Roost
>>31553078
Shore Up when?
>>31553078
Aggron is still better. With Grassy Terrain being relevant it's going to be shrugging off STAB EQs for days.
>>31554500
252 Atk Choice Band Krookodile Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aggron in Grassy Terrain: 112-136 (63.2 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery.
Given that it has no reliable recovery, I still wouldn't be letting Aggron take 4x SE attacks if I could possibly avoid it. If you were talking about Mega-Aggro, well, it loses the rock type and gains filter, it was already pretty unfazed by earthquake.
>>31554402
if steel was ever to get recovery it probably lose its resistance for one turn
>>31554524
For comparison:
252 Atk Choice Band Krookodile Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Filter Aggron-Mega in Grassy Terrain: 36-42 (20.3 - 23.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery.

>>31554524
Yeah I was talking about Aggron's mega as the anon I replied to posted Steelix's mega.
>>31551720
Just people trying it's buffs out, the 20 HP and Roost aren't as good when you look at it's typing. It's gonna fall soon.
>>31554402
Not to mention I would and still plan to entrainment volt absorb onto Mantine and make Rock its only weakness
>>31552896
That's what makes a good defensive pokemon anon.
