Gen 4 had the best meta.

Considered by some to be the pinnacle of Smogon OU, but that is wrong.

Gen 3 > Gen 5 > Gen 4 >>> Gen 2 > Gen 6 > Gen 7 > Gen 1

Easily the best OU meta of all time, though Gen 3 is a close second. Gen 4 was the peak of competitive play, and it's unlikely any future metagame will be as enjoyable as Gen 4 OU was (or Gen 4 UU for that matter)
