I've been a Pokémon fan since the first generation. Like many of you, Pokémon was a major part of my childhood. I fell in love with the anime and was intriguied by the charm of the colourful, elusive creatures. The allure of Pokémon can never be explained. There is something about the games, the atmosphere of the games and the creatures themselves that is so surreal. It captures the hearts of the young and old, alike. Every time I played a new generation for the first time, I felt a sense of adventure and youthful curiosity. When I was younger I felt a strong connection with the Pokémon themselves. They were more than my pets, in fact, I actually considered them my friends.
Things changed as I got older and I slowly began to lose interest. I'm not here to critique the franchise in any way but I made a decision that I want to move on from Pokémon in my life. I bought a 3DS for the sole purpose of playing Pokémon games. Pokémon Y is the only video game where I clocked over 1,500 hours. Pokémon was more than a hobby, it became a form of escapism for everything in my life. As much as I tried to stay away from the franchise I found myself always coming back to /vp/ and turning on my 3DS for about 3 minutes. I keep seeing references, ads, and other things related to Pokémon in other websites. It's like it follows me everywhere I go. I never realised just how much of an influence Pokémon has in the world. How do I let go of this franchise once for all ? Any advice for a man who wants to move on?

You mentioned that you sometimes find yourself using pokemon as a means to escape the pressure in your life. I advise you to not stop playing pokemon, because we all need something to escape our life, but that doesnt mean you should play as intensively as you did before, find a middle ground and try to cope with it.
Even if you find a way out of the pokemon franchise you will find yourself getting into another one just to escape your problems.
Just life one day at a time and do what you know needs to be done, dont procrastinate, but rather use pokemon as a reward for the effort you put into life.
That way you will keep the spark of pokemon in you or completely forget about pokemon as you move on.
Either way there is no incorrect way of living, there is only living.

I said the same thing about Sun/Moon and I played it even less than ORAS. My gameplay times for the games are:
X/Y: 1,557 hours
ORAS: 455 hours
SuMo: 207 hours
Overall I preferred SuMo over generation 6 yet I played ORAS much longer. The novelty of generation 7 wears off surprisingly even though Game Freak tried to change the formula a bit.
Do not kid yourself, anon. Game Freak will surprise you with hype but when you get the full product something will always fall short in unexpected ways. That's the way it always goes. I wouldn't have high expectations.

I have the same problem. I've been playing since Gen I, but the first game that I liked enough to finish was Emerald. After that, it was B&W. When ORAS came along, I clocked almost 800 hours, the longest I've ever played any Pokémon game.
Now I have Moon and I never got pass the first island before because the game bores me. I don't have patience to breed anymore, so I just injectedlolwhile thinking "haha, online is still fun, r-right?", but I got bored too... still, I'm always here shit posting, telling people to injectlol
There's nothing wrong with the games, I think its just me...
