If you trade a Pokemon to a theoretical gen 2 VC game, it has a chance to be shiny based on its IVs.
If you trade that Pokemon back to gen 1, then transfer up with Bank, it will no longer be shiny.

Game Freak or TPC or whoever codes the transfer process fucked up and mixed up which stat means what for calculating shinies so if they do Gen II VC then things that are Shiny in Gen II VC will stop being Shiny on transfer unless they update Transporter again for it but apparently it's meant to not need another update for Gen II VC

Gender has a similar issue since they calculate it randomly on transfer while it's tied to DVs in Gen II

The way gen 2 games check for shininess and gender involve the DVs of the pokemon. But the way GF's code for transferring the Gen 1 pokemon to bank looks at different DVs than Gen 2 does, so if they do have Gen 2 VC games, things that are shiny in them won't be after you transfer them, especially in the case of transferring to Gen 1 VC and back. And would also be messing up the genders each time, although that's less important.

Good thing they've got no intention of ever doing a Gen 2 VC game, then.

It's about self-consistency.

It's pretty embarrassing when you can be proven that you don't understand your own game as well as your fans.

Any other entertainment medium and they could hand-wave it away as necessacary for plot.

Having your own code used against you is definitive proof.

Since it was a change from Atk to Def to determine it could even be a simple mistake but to change it now would be bad press.

The only thing to do now is own it and jokingly add that it adds some "extra uniqueness" to the Pokemon since it differed from if it took place on cart games.
