The ONE thing they did in terms of hack checking is check for abilities. See, I have blatantly hacked Pokemon that came from OR. For example, Pure Power Regigigas. Its ability became Slow Start once I sent it to Sun. But Swords Dance, Extreme Speed, Close Combat, and Shadow Force? That passed just fine. Same with my permanent Megas.

Not true, they're all available between FRLG and Emerald. You're just going to have to play through Emerald 3 times to get all the Johto starters, and FRLG 3 times to get Raikou/Suicune/Entei.

You CAN get every single Gen III Pokemon with just Colosseum, Emerald, Leafgreen and XD, since XD has every single version exclusive except Slowpoke and Meditite, and LG has Slowpoke and XD has Meditite. The only issue you'd run into is the fact that you'll have to beat Leafgreen and Emerald 3 times each in order to get all three starters since none of them can trade with games outside of their own region until after they get the National dex.
