I don't even understand what's the rationale behind it. They could've just copied the old dex entries. Would it have taken up that much extra space? It's just some text, and I assume the models are already in anyways.

I don't know how, but the lack of a National Dex killed so much of my hype for SM, especially after ORAS introduced the ability to check all of a mon's idle and attacking animations and reintroduced the size comparison feature.

I just hope it's not behind a paywall, I practically never bothered with the app. Feels weird to split a staple off from a game and put it on something entirely different and having to access it by closing the game and opening the app.

I liked being able to check the Dex and pick a entry at random and read about it.

It's part of a bigger plan. They want to make it easier for players to complete their Pokedex but still want to add the Nat Dex data. So they just include the Nat Dex data on bank.

I don't get what's the point if you can't even get them yet.

They might have dropped it because the S/M Dex mons have unique pictures and they didn't feel like creating those for every Pokemon, especially as Megas have a different picture than the regular form. Not lying, compare Megamence and Megagross to their regular forms for example.
Or they wanted everyone the chance to obtain the shiny charm.
