I thought that electric type was weak to fire. I didn't start playing the games until gen 3, after steel had been introduced. But i had watched the anime when i was a kid so i knew magnemite was an electric type but i thought he couldn't be steel since steel types weren't a gen 1 thing. Since magnemite was weak to fire i thought that meant electric was weak to fire. Not sure why i never noticed that no other electric types didn't show the "it's super effective" text when i hit them with fire attacks.
>>
>>31496534
I do not blame you, OP. I remember thinking the same thing once upon a time.
That black orb with a face is a very suspicious design element to have between two consecutive Pokemon.

I genuinely never knew that steel resisted psychic until SM's Type Effectiveness quiz. I understand why, and gen2 was my main generation as a kid, but I guess I never HAD to know until now.
Also, it's not exactly intuitive. For balance yes, Psychics were a bit too much in gen1 and both Dark and Steel types introduced new advantages against Psychic type...
But psychics bending spoons was such a big image in the first two gens, so you might assume that Psychics could "bend" Steel types.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one to make that mistake with Gastly/Cloyster. I always an easier time remembering Steel resisted Psychic because I grew up watching 90s X-Men so I just thought "Oh, like Magneto's helmet resisting Xavier's telepathy."

Eh, I'm none of those things, but gen 5 was the best. Gen 3/4 just happen to be part of that holy trinity.
>>
>>31496534
In gen 1, I knew that Ground was immune to electric, but I used to think Rock was as well since a lot of gen 1 Rock types are also Ground type. Like seriously, why are the geodude line, rhyhorn line and Onix part Ground as well anyway? Actually the Rhyhorn line's primary type is Ground but whatever.

It was only until gen 3 that I accidentally misclicked and used tbolt on regirock that I realised electric is actually neutral on rock.
>>
>>31496534
i didnt know rock took neutral damage from bug until this generation, playing around with pheromosa in the battle tree. seriously, if it wasnt for the new icons that tell you when things are supper effective or not, i would have just kept on not using bug on rock pokemon, or like, in this situation, probably would have used u-turn and thought nothing of it when the rock mon took neutral... or i'd blame the neutral damage on the poke being weak to bug with its second type, idk

Can't you read the topic? It's things you used to think, repeating it now doesn't retrospectively change what you used to think.
>>
I always thought psychic was strong vs ghost, I didn't really take pokemon seriously for a long time and barely touched the type anyway. I then found out like 3 years ago that I only thought it was SE against ghost because all gen 1 ghosts were also poison.
>>
It was interesting for me to play Gen 1 after having been first introduced to Gen 3 and subsequent generations, cause going back to Gen 1, I had to remind myself of various things; such as that Magnemite was only pure Electric, and Bite wasn't Dark-typed.

Also fuck Alakazam from Gen 1. Stupid piece of shit kept killing my Pokemon in my Blue nuzlocke.
>>
>>31497917
Yeah same here. It gets confusing when I get a message like "It's super effective!" or "It's not very effective." when I use a move that is neutral because Gen 1 only checked 1 typing for effectiveness.

Also, in many rpgs electric is weak to fire, for example in Etrian Oddyssey.
