What does /vp/ think of gen one?

Guessing you mean true RBYG gen 1, not stuff like FRLG.

I have a soft spot for it but acknowledge it as the definite worst. I have to say I do enjoy the more down to earth quality to it. In gen 6 and 7 you had stuff like world ending weapons and alien wormholes. Those are cool as fuck concepts, even if executed kind of shitty, but i appreciate gen 1 really was just a kid traveling. Sure team rocket is a little extreme but still kind of tame. It gives me a real mother feeling, and I love that series a lot.

Second best, actually realistic in terms of story. Gen 2 made the word bigger, more alive, more creatures. Wild creatures with elemental powers. Awesome.
Gen 1 had bad guys wanted to run shit and make money.
Gen 2 was them not giving up.
Gen 3 was eco-terrorists. Also realistic.
Every gen after that has worse and worse bad guys with goals or ideals did not make any sense. In XY they choose not to even say what Team Flare even wanted, they just had lines like "we will make the worse perfect like we are!" whatever the fuck that was supposed to mean.

I don't even know what team skull is doing.

I like it a lot. It has a lot of charm imo. Even if it's not up to par technically, I still like a lot of the mons despite their simplicity and the overall feel of the region is distinct and respectable.

Gen 1 barely had a story at all. I agree it was a good gen but there was almost no plot to speak of, it was an excuse to go out, battle, and catch stuff.
