I literally said OP gave two senarios. I'll say them again but space them out to make it less confusing.

If a third version comes out of Sun and Moon, than we will see the remakes in 2018.

If we see no third version as the case in X and Y, then we will get remakes in 2017.

I wasn't on /vp/ at the time- was it just like now with starsfags? That seems so fucking weird to me... It was obvious from the beginning that GF wouldn't do a 3rd game for gen 5.

As for Z- I still think they're doing it.
Gen 7 will be Sun / Moon / Z
And then the next gen will be Whatever / Whatever / Eclipse.
Their new way of doing things is to have the third game as a continuation of the previous gen to make everything feel interconnected + continue old, unused storylines (like the rest of the zygarde + kalos king stories and the golf course + necromza in alola)

Next game will be Stars, that will likely be a sequel of SM a la bw2, and it will be for the 3DS. Then a gap year and then gen 8 for the next handhold nintendo console, which won't be the Switch. Sinnoh remakes will be gen 8.
