There's evidence that Staryu was supposed to have a gender, since it has unobtainable egg moves coded in GS, and could learn Attract in GSC.

I really enjoy them I think because it gives them a almost robotic quality, which is cool to me. Things like how in refresh dhelmise doesn't show any kind of facial emotion in any way makes me love them.
