I agree with you that Megas were probably conceived, in part, to help market remakes/sequels/etc., but given everything that's happened their introducing Sinnoh Formes, either supplementary to or completely instead of Megas, seems entirely in the realm of possibility.

Eternity Dialga gets Accel Time, which turns all two turn and recharge moves into single turn moves. Roar of Time is now usable along with a new signature move that'd take a charge turn otherwise.
Infinity Palkia gets Warp Space, which makes its critical hits ignore screens, subs and guard moves. Its new signature move has lower bp than Spacial Rend but is guaranteed to crit, like a stronger Storm Throw.
Chaos Giratina gets Nega Distortion, which reverses all stat changes in the field. Its new signature move abuses this by "lowering" its offensive stats.

even taking the least optimized stats, in its even spread, you're still looking at something that has 5 turns of outspeeding anything short of munchlax every time it switches in, offensive stats of 166 and 197 making it the strongest special attacker in the game whilst also sporting an attack stat on the level of mega-gallade as well as 100/166/146 bulk with a damn great defensive typing

basically its only downside would be its lack of proper stat-up moves

I also think this would be the most fitting ability mechanic lore-wise, but I have my doubts about its actual usefulness for giratina.

Like, normal giratina is weak to 5 types, immune to 2, and resists 6.

Assuming its ability worked exactly like inverse battles do, giratina not only has 6 weaknesses now, it has 8, as its fighting and normal immunities also revert. 8 weaknesses and 5 resistances sounds more like hindering the guy than helping it at all.

The only way this is good for giratina is if it applies to everything in the field but itself: now its ghost STAB is resisted by ghost and psychic but everything else is either weak or neutral, and dragon STAB hits everything but other dragons for neutral or super effective. Giratina would have pretty much perfect neutral coverage.

It could be situationally useful within Ubers as it makes Giratina a safe switch-in to Xerneas, Dragons in general, and lets Giratina actually take advantage of a lot of good typing by running weird coverage.
4xSE Aura Sphere/Brick Break on Lunaala and Lugia? SE Shadow Sneak on Darkrai?

Plus, it extends to allies as well. Something with craptastic typing, like Ho-Oh or Kyurem-White get a buff, while super common things, like P-Don get utterly shat on.

I think it would definitely have a place as an anti-meta strategy.
