How is this a widespread opinion?
I won't talk about gen7 because I haven't played it a lot but Shedinja had a niche in gen6, it got people to the top of the ladder both in UU and OU because of how good of a pivot it becomes with dedicated support IE : magic bounce/BP/ditto.

Buffing the ability just takes away the need for support.

Aura Sphere literally always hits.
Focus Blast in 70% accurate and that is famously low.
