I feel like each generation takes baby steps towards getting better and better. Only reason Sun isn't my favorite is because the post-game monster raising feels burdensome and needlessly time consuming compared to previous titles.

Kanto games have a good balance, and a simple and realistic region. I like them. The lack of dialogue makes the story and the game pretty boring, though. That's the biggest flaw. The Pokemon introduced in them are the second best of all.

Johto games are kind of a meh. Everything was underwhelming, except for the rival, region and postgame. I like playing HGSS only when I want a long game, but otherwise I stay away.

Hoenn games are great. I liked how each version had a different evil team and slightly different story. I love Hoenn as a region and the Pokemon design were the best of all generations, in my opinion. They had the perfect balance of everything, though ORAS was a bit lacking in postgame.

Sinnoh is a bit annoying, though fun. There aren't too many "new" Pokemon I like to use, but overall, they were designed pretty well and I liked that. They're also kind of slow, and they went overboard with HMs. I love the region aesthetically, but it wasn't fun to travel. I would pick Platinum over HGSS if I needed a Gen 4 game to play, though.

I think first Unova games were okay. The region looked good and was fun to travel. The new Pokemon were a lot in number, and while not a lot of them stand out as great, the majority of them were above average. As a storyfag, I like they tried to make a good one, but it was kind of dumb overall. Some characters were great, like Cheren or Bianca, while others could've been better, like N. I would replay it from time to time, though not a lot.

The second Unova games were a great improvement, though the characters were worse. The story was a huge improvement just because it wasn't dumb. Gameplay-wise, it is the most fun, and the one I revisit the most, even if I don't consider it my favorite game.

Kalos games were good. There were a lot of things I loved, such as the new 3D graphics, Mega Evolution and customization. The new Pokemon were good as well. I liked the region aesthetically, though it felt a bit off and unrealistic. The story and most of the characters were just annoying. It was also too easy. Their also wasn't a lot of content, though I completed my Pokedex in these games, so I played for a long time. I overall liked more than I hated, but I wouldn't revisit them anytime soon.

I have mixed feelings about Alola games. I had a great time playing, probably the best, but it was because of the story, not gameplay. As far as gameplay goes, it was okay at best. The new Pokemon were underwhelming, and the region itself was a bit boring. While I liked Trails, I also like Gyms. There wasn't as much content in this too, like Contests or such. It focused on battles a lot more than any other games, though I consider that a plus. I loved the story and characters, though.
The lack of a skip button, and the fact that I already know the story are going to take out replayability, so that's something too. So I'm not sure how to feel about them.

But I think Crystal Version was the most balanced one though - it had that retro feeling while its mechanics were improved from the first gen.

Favourite Gen, hands down. This was the first time I got to experience Pokemon socially instead of just by myself in my room. I had a group of like six or seven friends in school who were all into BW and BW2. Friend nostalgia > Childhood nostalgia.

Came out just a bit after I graduated high school, so it didn't get the full effect of that friend nostalgia. I liked the dress-up =. Never played ORAS.

Meh. It's got a lot of glaring issues and my friend nostalgia is all but gone now.

I'm starting to see Pokemon for the hastily-made cash-grab RPG it is now and less of a magical social experience. I get why Pokemania happened.

I don't even dislike gen 6 and I remember playing for the first time I was really hype, but when I got to the elite 4 I just kind of set the game down and forgot about it for months, which is something I would usually never do in a Pokemon game. The same happened in ORAS. So while I don't actively find flaws in them, 6th gen had the least impact on me while playing it.

A guy trying to get his Pokemon back from actual criminals who want to rule the region, while a portion of those criminals have redeemed themselves and help you save the region is much better than the shit in BW.

BW had TP trying to convince people Pokemon are suffering. That in itself is bullshit, but they themselves use AND abuse Pokemon. Then we clearly see they're evil, even the Champion recognizes it, but no one does anything to stop them until after they get a Legendary. It's a dumb story.

Played the ever loving shit out of r/b/y, definitely way more than what any psychologist would consider healthy behavior.
Played through g/s, but after what I did with r/b/y I was seriously getting tired of pokemon.
Pirated black a few years ago, had a decent time but immediately lost interest after beating the game, though to be fair nintendo pulled the support on the game so I couldn't use any online function.
Got a 2ds for moon, no regrets, I love it and it has renewed my love of pokemon that I had lost for over a decade.

BW1 Plasma WAS bullshit, but they were banking on people just accepting things the way they are without looking into WHY they are the way they are.

They can't understand Pokemon, yet they freely battle with them and put them into dangerous situations. Further, a lot of dangerous criminal teams use and abuse Pokemon.

Plasma worked because a lot of people (including the lower members of Plasma) didn't have all the information, and Team Plasma was using their love of Pokemon and manipulating/guilting them into "doing the right thing."

The Pokemon they use are helpers, which they would supposedly release. But their hypocrisy is pointed out in-universe, like when a Grunt can't let his Pokemon go because they bonded too much.

They're letting criminals run around, because their leader said "lol i didn't know".

Did what Hoenn was too much of a pussy to do and locked the dex to force you to use the new 156 Pokemon and make some new bros. That and it was Gamefreak's best attempt at a story.

BW2 builds on this greatly, sans the locked dex, and was definitely a better try at a sequel than HGSS. Definitely my favorite region and gen over all.

It started off good save for the massive gen 1 pandering, but then becomes a rushed mess. The amount of new Pokemon available was pitiful. Customization was meh and the megas were alright.

More gen 1 pandering, Alola forms were lazy as fuck and could have had their slots be used for new Pokemon, and the amount of actual new Pokemon is sad like Kalos. Customization is a little better this gen, and the story is second best, held back by Lille.
