>>
>>31467753
Me neither.
>>
>>31467753

Remember when people didn't complain about every fucking tiny thing that bothers them, and instead just managed to have fun?
>>
>a ball

no
>>
>>31467776
Do you believe people come here for fun?
>>
>>31467753
You realize that hand-drawn is easier to do than drawing on a computer, right? Like, you're aware of the fact that it takes more effort to draw the same thing on a computer than on a piece of paper?

>Clean lines
Why in God's name is this presented as a bad thing?

No, no I don't.

Those clean lines are draw with a pen tool, all the same thickness. It's bland and shows how little effort they put into it.

Gee.
>>
>>31467791
Yeah I don't think so. It's all about what you've practiced in. I have a heck of a lot an easier time drawing in Photoshop than I ever did on paper and that's because of practice.
>>
I miss the watercolours. I like new designs, but gens 1/2 had the best art style hands down.
>>
>>31467812
>all the same thickness
The fuck are you on about? So are the lines on Blaziken, FRLG Charizard, Infernape, and HGSS Typhlosion.

The only one there that has truly a visible difference in line width is RGBY Charizard, and it looks like ass.
>>
>>31467816
Mega Charizard =/= Charizard
>>
>>31467822
I think we can safely assume that Sugimori has more years of practice on paper than on a Wacom.

>Clean lines in contrast to the previous gen's jaggy-ness

Is that mislabeled? Gens 5 and 6 have the exact same linework as the Gens before it, because they're all done by Sugimori. There's no difference in "jaggy-ness" between 3, 4, 5, and 6.

It's not until Gen 7 that the linework becomes cleaner, and that's only because Sugimori didn't do the artwork for non-Alolan form Pokémon, excluding things like Zygarde 10%.

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

ITT: People who know nothing about art discuss art.
>>31467894
The inconsistent thickness on Feraligatr's linework is armature as fuck and most all art directors would throw this back at the artist and tell him to do it over, especially if said drawing was going to be printed and distributed.
Aurorus' linework is much better in that it's consistent with it's lines, and manages to use a brush that has a rough, papery texture without having obvious dips in thickness like on Feraligatr. It can be made transparent easily, which is useful when it needs to be put on something like a book cover, or printed out as a sticker.
>>31467812
>>It's bland and shows how little effort they put into it.
What takes 'little effort' is having shitty lineart and not bothering to make it look good at a high resolution. Have you ever drawn a picture in your life?
>>
>>31469923
not backwards.
>>
>>31469979
You would prefer a single thickness throughout the entire drawing rather than variation?
>>
>>31469696
That too.
>>
>>31470040
Anon, they're finished works - not concept art for a book.

Line weight doesn't cross over well to official, finished designs for kids games.

Anyway, a lot of gen1 and 2 designs (the style) remind me of a students starting portfolio. The later versions are cleaned and ready to be updated. That's just how I relate them to one another from my experience.

It depends on the type of drawing. Generally speaking, you'd want to have a thick outline, but when it comes to the details on a character, you'd want thinner lines, but even then, you want both of these lines to be consistent so they look neat Pic related is an okay example of this, not the best but I don't save that many images of official art. It shows a thick outer line but the details have thinner lines, there's variation and it's good. The difference between this and the drawing I quoted earlier is that the Feraligatr has poor markmaking, the line variation wasn't a stylistic choice, rather a byproduct in the fact that the artist couldn't keep a steady hand when making the strokes with the pen, hence why it's armature.
>>
>>31467753
last one does look flat and unfinished.
now imagine how horrible it would be if they actually used that god awful art style not only in the games but also for the anime series....shit,
oh wait! that already is the case. RIP in peaces pokemon
>>
It was crazy apparent that Sugimori didn't draw the official artworks as soon as the Starters' ones came out.

I really hate this, it feels horrible, like if they make a new Pokémon game and decide to cut the National Pokédex off.

lol your all such fucking idiots.
I bet most of you haven't even attempted to do line work digitally. That shit is hard, way harder than pen on paper. But do you know why they do it?

For a clean, clear look. Thats why the colours have become more vibrant, and the shading muted. This game is SUPPOSED to appeal to kids. Kids are attracted to clean, vibrant artwork. Thats why cartoons go for the simple look instead of the old school Beatrix Potter detailed style. The realistic shading and detail just off puts the audience. Times have changed. Simple is more effective. It conveys the design much easier.

This game's primary audience is children. Not sweaty basement dwellers posting on an otaku forum. If you want more detailed Pokemon, look at Arvalis' work.
