Mega Evolution exists in Origins universe, but not in Kanto. Mega Evolution doesn't exist in Alola, but it does in the universe. This is the same as it's always been. Mega Evolution was a Kalos only thing, but was added in ORAS later. Absolutely NOTHING suggests that we switched fucking universes.

It's a clever plot device to explain why remakes have mechanics that didn't exist back then; they take place in an alternate timeline where those mechanics have always existed.
