I dig the Dinosaur and Fairy Tale gyms. Forest gym seems kind of cliche with mostly tree-mons - I would remove Sudowoodo as it doesn't really belong in the woods to begin with, and replace Shiftry and Wormadam with stronger alternatives. And a few I don't quite understand, like Umbreon in the City gym and Slaking in the Cryptid gym.

Problem:
since there are no animals in pokemon there are no "cryptids","apes" or "dinosaurs" in the pokemon universe, the in-game characters could never mention what those gymns were about, without breaking the fourth wall

There are cryptids, but yes, your argument has some weight seeing that some cryptid-based Pokemon are pretty common.
There are body descriptions like 'bird', so 'simian' isn't too far-fetched.
I guess the last one has a point.

That's Sudowoodo's whole deal, though; that it hides out in the woods and pretends to be a tree. It's a perfect fit. The focus on tree-mon is a bit much, though. Some more variety might be nice. There's the "Pokemon by habitat" feature that got dropped in Gen IV even though it was great, which might spark some ideas. Alternatively, just switch Komala and Burmy for Tropius, Exeggcutor, and/or Abomasnow, and just make it a tree team.

Ice/Grass makes it too easy to just Flamethrower your way through. I'd switch it to Grass/Bug and I guess Ice/Normal. Unless you were willing to give up Water/Ghost to get Ice/Water and Ghost/Normal, though I really do like the Water/Ghost team.

I had an idea I was using for my own fangame; basically it drops single type gyms in favour of battle mechanics:

>Type core gym (Grass, Fire, Water)
>Status ailment gym (Poison, Burn, Paralysis)
>Trick Room gym
>Entry Hazard gym (Spikes, Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin)
>Weather gym (Can randomly be Rain or Sandstorm)
>Priority gym (Bullet Punch, Vacuum Wave, Aqua Jet)
>Hail gym (uses all the Ice types with shit like Slush Rush, etc)
>Doubles gym (maybe Meowstic or Klefki, along with some sweepers)

Gamefreak are constantly introducing new mechanics but the game never pushes you to utilize them, or even discover what the fuck they are. They introduced Terrain but never actually explained what it does; you have to actually go get the Pokemon and/or run calcs.

To circumvent the Fire-type onslaught, I'd probably give Hailey's Pokémon a lot of Fire-type counters (moves like Rock Slide and such).
